Late 2012 version. Aroma: Caramel with alcohol wrapping. Also toffee and brown sugar with some roasted accents. Nose power between light and average. Appearance: Brown with red glints, very clear, head is rocky, good quantity, long lasting but leaving a very little lacing that disappears fast. Taste: Attack is soft sparkling with alcohol giving all power. Caramel and toffee are dominant and covering all other flavors except a tiny bit of vanilla and cherries. Warming, mellow and round with a lot of body. A fairly good scotch ale, not too sweet and very warming.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of pushkinwow. Thanks! Clear, orangish brown appearance with a light brown head. Fairly sweet, candy, burnt toffee, butterscotch, roasty aroma. Somewhat roasty, butterscotch candy, chocolate, burnt caramel/toffee flavor. Pretty tasty but a bit buttery.

(draft @ Grad Club, Kingston ON) Pours a dark ruby with a small, short-lived tan head. Aroma sweet and malty - bit of butterscotch and some dark berries. Flavour again sweet, malty with dark fruit, butterscotch and vanilla notes. Finishes a little drier with mild hop bitterness, but still sweet overall with alcohol hints as it warms. Relatively easy-drinking for its sweetness, but not particularly complex.

Originally rated May 2006. Comes in a nice Scotch (whisky) tube. Pours a beautiful deep indian red with a good tanned fizzy-cream head. Retention is not very long and lacing is almost not happening. At least a ring forms around the brew, and stays there troughout the drinking experience. Full of tiny bubble carbonation actively coming from the bottom of the glass. The nose has caramel malt, nut, fruits (apples, pears) and alcohol scents. Semi-syrupy mouthfeel with a dry aftertaste. The taste represents well the aromas, as the fruits and alcohol are found. No burning though, very smooth. Pretty good beer, just lacking a bit of a punch. Slightly overpriced. Note (2011): this one is now available in their tester pack which keeps the price down and affordable.

Bottle, as St Ambroise Scotch Ale, 7.5%ABV. 12C. Dark copper with a beige head that fades to a coat. Aroma of dried fruits and toffee, some alcohol. Sweet with dried fruit, caramel, sherry, vanilla, mace. Really rather lifeless mouthfeel - the flavours are nice but neither leap out to greet nor inveigle you in. Some woody/ smokey whisky notes at the end.

Pours very dark brown with a large, lasting head.Very expressive aromas, lots of dark fruit, smoky and earth peat, golden syrup, caramel and cognac.Similarly rich flavours, very malty, with more peat as well. The alcohol is a bit full on, and feels a bit harsh amongst the dry finish.

341mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours dark reddish brown with a small head. Nose of dark cherries, maple syrup, candied sugar and heaps of caramel. Flavour reveals considerable smokiness overtop loads of caramel, maple syrup and candied sugar. Solid scotch ale.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, and caramel, as well as light notes of metal from the alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, as well as light notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Bottle, 7.2%. Peppery and vinous aroma. Almost clear nut brown colour. Small tan head. The flavour is vinous with some thin, dry, caramelly note to it. Gets a little alcoholic in the finish.
