22oz bottle thanks to Toby side by side with the BA version, the BA version helps round it out. Pours out orange amber topped with a sand head. Nose is some pine hops sweet malts and spice. Taste is more of the hop presents and a sweet malt.

2014 bottle thanks to TheAlum! Pours hazy hazel, small off-white head, dissipates leaving decent residual and lacing. Aroma is rich and malty, dark sugars and pumpernickle bread. Flavor is pretty sweet, light bitterness and a bit of a bite from the rye, toffee, dark bread, hints of smoke. Medium plus body, smooth mouthfeel. Pretty solid barleywine. I can see why this ages well in bourbon barrels.

Sampled from 0.65 l bottle at 9.5% abv, shared by kermis at Not THT, thanks! Slightly hazy, brownish amber with an off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly spicy aroma of caramel, brown sugar, nuts and spices (caraway?). Rather sweet, malty and quite spicy taste of caramel, honey, brown sugar, nuts and spices, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, a bit warming-alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, rather oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice!

Bottle shared. Hazy dark orange golden with creamy beige head. Lots of spices in an almost citrus way which I guess are the caraway seeds, strong rye, citrusy hops, cardboard, light grassy, caramel, fudge, brandy. Quite sweet with lingering bitter finish. Full bodied with sticky feel but also a bit thin boozy finish. Very decent.

Bottle courtesy of kermis! At Not THT. Hazy brownish amber. Minimal creamy head. Big sweet rye and spices, fudge, caramels, strong barrel character. Honey, maple syrup. Quite hoppy as well. Big sweet, mild bitterness. Full body, low carbonation, creamy fat feel. Nice! --- Beer merged from original tick of Hi-Fi Rye on 18 Dec 2017 at 12:34 - Score: 7. Original review text: 3.8

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy brown color ale with a small foamy head with light retention and no lacing. Aroma of spicy rye notes with some caramelized notes and some residual sugar notes. Taste is also dominated by some spicy rye notes with some heavy caramelized malt with light toffee notes and quite a bit of residual sugars. Body is quite full with medium to low carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with lots of extreme flavours and just enough balance for the residual sugars not too take over the whole mix. I still think that additional attenuation would be beneficial for this beer and most other Flossmoor beers.
