Hades is brewed with a rare Belgian yeast strain that gives a complex spicy flavor and aroma. Noticeable hops and medium malt character make it an extremely well-balanced, crisp ale. Hades goes great with a bowl of fresh mussels, crusty bread, and virtually any artesian cheese.

12oz bottle (marked as 7.8%) bottled on 8/02/2010. Pours with a clear golden body (mostly clear) with a minimal and quick to fade head. Aromas of corn (or raw pilsner malt, which my nose sometimes associates with raw corn (dms precursor?)), and strong clove phenols. Some candi sugar and fresh cut grass. Peppery. Taste is clove, peppery, and bready. A bit thin and lightly metallic on the back end. Some vanilla and light banana esters in the finish as well. Light notes of tongue depressor. Kind of ’green’ tasting to be honest. Lively bubbles, medium-dry finish.

35cl Bottle at Beer Temple, shared by and with Plovmand and DSG. Almost clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of a typical but boring Belgian ale, fruity and light sour and yeasty. Flavour is good though, nice light malty with coreander, lemongrass, light hoppy finish, slightly dry. Medium bodied.

(bottle, 35.5cl; 7.8%abv) Slightly hazy, pale golden colour with a blond mid-sized foamy head. Slightly citric and herbal hoppy aroma with pale malt, white bread and moderately spicy notes. Moderately sweet flavour with shades of sourness, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Pale malty and slightly wheaty base with notes of citrus, grapefruit; sweet-bitter, slightly fruity and herbal hoppy finish with moderately spicy notes. Obviously made in the tradition of pale Belgian Ales with a dangerously well-masked abv, such as Duvel. Not as good as GD Belgica. 05.VIII.10

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a pale yellow color with a small soapy white head that faded quickly. The aroma was moderate sugar, pear, fig and some alcohol showed through. The flavor was dryish anbd a tough bitter with faint sugar, moderate bread and undertgones of egg white and pepper. The finish was long, dry, bready and a bit woody. Fairly full bodied but undercarbonated. Disappointing.

bottle - Pours hazy gold and smells of yeast, light malt, and banana. The flavor is sweet with slight spice and a good hops balance. It’s easy to drink, bubbly and finishes on the dry side.

Tap at Pony Bar. I’d call this the love child of Pilsener and Belgian. Crisp and clean all around. Some nice Belgian yeast character, along with subtle sweetness and bitterness. A really nice beer.
