Fancied a mild and this was on offer at the Hitchin Beer Festival. Loads going on for a really low abv. Everything i want from a mild, with woodyness and a great hit of farmyard. Lovely.

Can from Drinkmonger. Clear amber/brown body with a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Patchy lacing. Aroma of coffee, green pepper and Twiglets. Flavour of brown bread and earth. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Simple and easy drinking.

Handpull cask at the Flute & Tankard, Cardiff. Dark mahogany brown, a little bit of translucency with a spotty beige/khaki head & considerable lacing. Light malty aroma, some chocolate, some dark berries. Sweet taste, lots of liquorice. A bit too much for my liking if truth be told but I still like it well enough. More malty notes and liquorice in the aftertaste. A reasonably good mild.

Cask at the harp. It pouts near black with a thick foamy beige head. The nose is earthy, toast, roasted malt and dull liquorice. The taste is smooth, roasty, toast, earth, mild bitterness, touch of acidity and cocoa with a dry finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. Fairly simple, straightforward stuff. Drinkable enough.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours dark brown with a fine, white foam head. Lots of dark, chalky and roasted malts on the nose. Light sweet flavor with quite a bit of char, tobacco, burnt wood, light minerals, faint burnt plastic. Light bodied with average carbonation. Mildly dry on the finish, lightly sweet with lots more charred malts, faint roast, faint burnt plastic, dirt, burnt cocoa. It’s OK. A few off-notes but overall it isn’t bad.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, London on 10th April 2012. Deep ruby with thin off-white, dot-lacing head. Rich malty aroma with biscuit notes. Superb malty liquid - shortbread and fresh-baked cakes, bitter chocolate and berries. Very balanced rounded finish with sweet fruitiness. Engaging mouthfeel with plenty of body. Loved it.
