Pareto (Port Wine BA) is a monumental wee heavy aged to perfection in port wine barrels for 12 months. Decadent caramel sweetness cut with oak and notes of port wine. Luscious brew suitable for slow sipping.

Smell-weak to medium, malt, acidic. Foam- thin to medium, malty, alcohol, caramel, spice. Head is medium to large, light brown color. Appearance- brewer-specific bottlecap, color-coded, the label is simple, classic, overall slight bonus. Black color, , no carbonation. From-snifter Taste- malt, caramel, acidic tones, alcohol. Very boozy, malty beer with caramel notes in the mix. Feels very boozy even, with some sweetness in the mix, but overall not great. Too boozy. Seems aging made this worse...

The Final Release 2020. A dark brown beer, a head is quite small and light brown. Aroma has dried fruits, raisin and prune, caramel, dryer herbs, some barrel, hint of port wine. Taste has caramel, raisin, barrel, richness of malts, some port wine. Almost full bodied, not stickyness. Complex and balanced. Powerful, but smooth and enjoyable. Great beer.

2021-11-26, as Pareto The Final Release, bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver, bb 21 04 2025, batch 468, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Sweet, smooth, some dark sugar, light wine vibes, some alcohol, good but not very complex.

Dark brown colour. Aroma of chocolate with a bit of liquor. Sweet, full bodied, good malt richness, lean flavour, with nice alcohol warmth, brandy, barrels, with a hint of fruit.
Excellent.

I assume this will be an efficient beer, the sort of beer that could only have existed because the owners of Sori reallocated their resources from Finland to Estonia. Dark brown. Thin head. Plums, fruitcake, raisins and that sort of thing, in a big, expressive aroma. On the palate, similar. Big and boozy, with deep fruit character that speaks more to barley wine than wee heavy. Port, of course, lends some of this, and it seems reasonable to be eating dried apricots, prunes, blue cheese and walnuts right now, all of which speak to the barrel influence. I think this beer is excellent. My standing best scotch ale is that first batch of L'Abri de le Tempete Corne de Brume. What I'm rating here doesn't speak Scotch Ale to me, but it is an absolutely excellent product.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is quite alcoholic, with lots of port wine, caramel malt, and dark dried fruit. Flavour is quite boozy, with intense port wine barrels, followed by dried dark fruits and caramel. The port wine is pretty intense, imparting plenty of warming from the alcohol. Very good.

Sori's interpretation of the old Scottish wee heavy style, in this case aged on port wine barrels. Medium thick, mousy, pale greyish beige, slowly opening head; misty dark mahogany brown robe with glowing burgundy hue. Aroma of tawny port indeed, toffee, slight vanilla (from oak wood), blackberry jam, pecan nuts, lightly toasted brown bread, 'pepernoot', Belgian chocolates, brandy. Sweet onset, fig jam and blackberry coulis aspects, medium carbonated with a full mouthfeel; caramelly and walnutty malt base developing this toasty-bitterish edge in the end as befits a Scotch (or wee heavy), warmed by considerable port-like alcohol and showing a pronounced tannic dryness as well, even a bit astringently so in the end. Spicy hop notes accentuate this, and so does the toasty aspect of the malts, but the caramelly sweetness remains too and provides softness and balance. Typical 'postmodern' barrel aged Scotch, well-crafted, but I prefer them a tad less boozy and sweet, to be honest.
