Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell. I probably got this one at Kris Wines about three years ago. Pours clear ruby with a creamy tan head. Fruity nose, some apple, grape, berries. Medium sweet flavor with suggestions of mild oxidation, bread, toffee, dried fruits, mellow apple. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation and a creamy texture. Lightly warming to finish with further toffee, aged fruits, rich bread. Flavorful and very well balanced. Solid.

Bottle split at Craft Clerko, thanks to Leighton, 22/10/13. Dark chestnut brown with a moderate light tan covering. Nose is treacle toffee pudding, figs, dates, jammyfied dark fructis, honey, muscavado sugars. Taste comprises dark toffee, dark fruits, boozey do, Xmas cake, sugars. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze and dark fruit strains in the finish. Decent BW. I rated this higher than Magic Rock Strongman, if you’d told me that at the start of the evening I’d have mocked you more than I normally would !

Bottle at shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell. Thanks to Leighton. Clear red / cherry / copper colour with a big cream head. Aroma is liquorice, cranberry, caramel. Flavour is nice sweet liquorice, sweey berry, cranberry. Warming alcohol, but not too much hot alcohol. Nice carbonation. Medium full body. Nice barley wine.

Bottle, big thanks to Leighton. It pours clear deep amber/brown with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, wood, toffee, honeycomb, toast and brown bread. The nose is smooth, wood, earth, toast, dried fruit, tangy berry, dried cranberry, varnish, caramel and resin with a dry, woody finish. Well hidden alcohol. Medium+ body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Tasty, well-balanced and very drinkable. A great barley wine.

Malziger, wenig herber Antrunk. Schokoladig, vollmundig. Intensiv malzig bleibend, erdig, der Alkohol ist höchstens erahnbar. Rund, sehr gut. 12/11/11/12/7/12

Dark brown color; medium sized head. Mild aroma of roasted malt and yeast. Medium body stength, chocolate flavor, but the mouthfeel is medium dry; correct bitterness; fruity hint.
More strong Porter/Stout than Barley Wine, but pleasant, with some character.

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is spiced, herbal and dark toasted malty. Toasted malty and caramelish. Bitter and malty finish.

[Bottle that Dad shared with me - cheers!] Deep amber, moderate off-white head. Alcohol dominates from the off. Some berry, raisin and malt flavours creep round the edge, making it taste like a port that’s been washed over dusty old barley. It’s drinkable, and grows on you, but in all truth it’s unbalanced and a little on the harsh side.

Clear dark brown beer. Semi dry palate, zero carbonation. Malt and more malt and a slight port likeness. Not much else and quite hard to get down.

Bottle from dad, (cheers dad) shared 21.10.10 Pours reddy brown with a thin white head, bit bubbly but doesn’t come across in the mouth as too fizzy. Quite bitter and thick in the mouth, streaky citrus, strength apparaent but not what I’d call boozy, some orange showing, nice beer. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5
