Bottle, shared by KnutAlbert. It’s looking quite nice in the glass, with a clear, golden-orange body under a finger-thick off-white to beige head. Malty-sweet nose with some licorice and alcohol. Some roasted notes too. Caramel, roasted malt, sweetness, dried fruits and alcohol in the mouth, full-bodied, sweetish and warming. Bitter finish with some alchol. Rather unusual to experience an English dubbel, but it was quite nice. Imagine a deep chair, a good book and an open fire. And preferably an even better beer... ;-) I could settle with this one though. (081215)

Murky, dark brown body. Off-white, filmy layer on the top. Dark and dried fruits to the nose. Plums and berries in the flavour, continuing all the way right throughout a lingering tail. Good [bottle, thanks to Knut Albert, shared at a social gathering in Oslo, 15.12.2008].

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. Poured a reddy brown with a lively foaming head. Aroma was roasted malt and some dark fruit. Taste wise, this had similar elements, but was somewhat lacking in real body and the yeasty edge to this loses it marks. Pleasant enough boozy hit, but falls short of anything special.

500ml bottle from Notts BF 07. Way too strong and unsubtle. Clear chestnut colour with really thick beige head. Strong fruity aroma. Syrupy malt, hot alcohol. Plums are the fruits in the mouth. Good condition though.

Bouteille 500ml, courtoisie de HogtownHarry. De couleur brune rouge et voilée. Nez de levures fruitées (prunes, notes de raisins vineux et d’agrumes), malté de caramel toffee sucré et légèrement rôti, léger de sucre brun avec des notes de sucre bonbon, légèrement épicé (coriandre) avec des notes boisées, de pain, d’alcool très doux ainsi que de houblon herbeux et terreux. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture crémeuse. Goût de levures fruitées (prunes, léger de raisins et d’agrumes, traces de pommes) avec un léger goût épicé (coriandre) et des notes boisées lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de caramel toffee sucré et moyennement rôti, léger de sucre brun et de pain avec des notes de sucre bonbon, parallèlement à un léger goût d’alcool doux aux notes réchauffantes ainsi qu’un goût moyennement amer de houblon herbeux et légèrement terreux et ce jusqu’en finale où l’on retrouve également de petites notes de levures épicées (poivre) asséchantes. Post-goût long et aux notes sèches, moyennement amer de houblon herbeux et terreux, de rôti, léger d’alcool et de levures ainsi que des notes fruitées (zest d’agrumes, pelures de prunes et moût de raisins).

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a medium reddish color ale with a big foamy head with great retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of malt with a hint of sweetness is weaker then expected but still enjoyable. Taste is comprised of medium caramel malt with some weak candi sugar and an interesting yeasty finish. Body is probably thinner then it should be with some great carbonation. I always thought that Burton beers had something Belgian about them so it is great to have the opportunity to drink this beer but it still seems something is missing for it to be a great dubel.

Bottle. Hazy amber color with a off white head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of caramel and fruit. Malty flavor with spices and some fruity sweetness.

500ml Bottle picked up at the Grog shop, Jericho, Oxford 29-07-06. This poured a wonderful red, almost looked like a deep rich claret, no head to speak of. Fruity and almost rum like aroma, tasted fruity and malty but I found the alcohol to be a little harsh. Whilst I am impressed with the effort and imagination that has gone into this I’m not sure that it is a particularly good example of its type. I struggled with it a bit.
