Winter Warmer is 100% malt brew, with Maris Otter and Crystal malt combining Fuggle and Golding hops. Young’s unique cane sugar mix is added to the copper during the brewing process.
A welcome sight on the bar during the winter months, Winter Warmer is the ideal beer to cosy up with in front of a pub fire on a cold winter’s night.

Clear amber/copper pour with a white head. Aromas, of dried fruit, cake, milk chocolate/caramel. Taste at red berries, dried fruit - very nice and complex for an ale

Not really exciting. Not really a strong ale either. Deep nutty color with a fine off white head. Ok lacing. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Soft carbonation level. Toffee, nutty, malty and some spices in the flavor. A bit thin body.

On handpull at the Trinity Arms in Brixton. Pours red brown. Caramel, biscuit, dried fruit. Very drinkable.

Cask at the Fox & Anchor. A deep dark brown in the glass with a minimal head. This was an old fashioned winter warmer that was very simple in its flavour profile with plenty of malt and a strong hit of caramel. There was a lot of flavour for a 5% beer, but in no way sessionable. Once again I come away from drinking a Young's beer mulling on its simplicity and trying to work out if that is a good or a bad thing.

Cask at the Calthorpe Arms, London on 4th January 2017. Deep copper with virtually no head or lacing. Spicy malt aroma. Sweet malts, touch of fruit and some hints of leafy hop in-mouth. Malty, slightly toasty in the finish. Fair bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Rated as-is. Had I tried to compare with the original Young’s version, the fields above would have been populated with different values.

A reddish dark amber colour with a tiny head. Malty and fruity, orange peel and raisin aroma. Sweet malty flavours, some brown sugar and dark fruit. A mild bitterness in the finish.
