Bottle shared at Cotteridge Convention 2017. Cheers! Pours cloudy orange with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma holds toffee and coffee. Big sweet flavour with notes of bread and oily coffee. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Oily finish, lightly warming, with more rich coffee, light caramel. Good stuff.

Bottle split at Cotts Convention III, thanks to Dave Up, 20/05/17. Lightly hazed orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is big on coffee grinds, spice, toffee, bitter fruit essence. Taste comprises caramel, toffee, coffee bean, vanilla, light cocoa whisper, fruti slice. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent.

Gravity cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Amber, cloudy with almost no head. Caramel biscuit, palm oil, shockingly naked alcohol in the confusing but ultimately tempting aroma. Taste is sour boozy, then sweet, then with a dogged bitter note in the finish. More caramel and a nice of breadfruit in the aftertaste. Thinner body than expected for the ABV, but it’s got enough meatiness to it. I love the idea of pale stouts but I struggle with the dichotomy of the caramelly malty sweetness with the intense alcohol burn. This is very well worth trying though!

On keg at the Hanging Bat. I loaded this as an English Strong Ale as it wasn’t sweet enough to follow the Barley Wine style. Perhaps American Strong Ale would’ve been appropriate. Appearance - cloudy amber. Thin head. Nose - oh this is a coffee beer! Green chilli too. Taste - definitely green chilli going on. Coffee of course. Palate - rich and creamy in texture and body. Fairly ok finish considering the strength. Overall - it’s fine, but I’m no fan of coffee beers.

2 x 330ml bottles of this doing the rounds at the 3rd Cotteridge Tasting on 20th May 2017. Cheers Dave (EvilEmpire) for those. Grubby amber body, beige head: bottle had been tipped a few times before it got to my station at the table, so might have been better looking earlier? Coffee esters rule the nose, the taste also heavy on the coffee, some chocolate and vanilla below the surface. Malty throughout.

Bottle at Cotteridge Convention 2017. It pours murky dark amber - brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is quite soft, toasty, roasted malt, coffee, grainy, brown bread and greenness. The taste is chewy, roasted malt, quite sweet, coffee, green veg, peasy, oily, umami, tangy fruits, some alcohol and leather. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Has this kind of green coffee character which I don’t really like. So-so.
