500ml bottle into a UK pint sleeve at home on 30th Jan 2016: beer five in a solo tasting session with myself. Deep, dark brown body, huge foaming tanned crown: looks great. Can you have a ’bitter’ smell? Anyway this has a burnt hop aroma with a bitter scent. The taste is also hop bitter with a burnt like coal/coke/nutty slack bite. Chocolate notes arrival late on in each sip, still bitter though. I have had problems with some Salopian beers in the past, but this is lovely in my opinion: I much prefer their darker beers to the golden, citrusy offerings although most of my friends like those more than the dark brews! Good job we are all different.

0,5l bottle at home from trade with minutemat, big thanks. BB 03/2016. very nice very dark brown / almost black color, rather big tan head that stays for a while. hmm, smell has some problems unfortunatly, cucumber, pickles and some spices. also some licorice and a bit soapy, almost no hops noticeable on this one, just light grass and herbal notes, also some light notes of coffee. Overall a bit unclean smell, not too disturbing but also not very inviting, overall still OKish. medium body, rather light carbonation, slick mouthfeel even a bit creamy towards the finish. Unfortunatly the taste is in accordance with the smell, taste of old hops and a bit solvent like, light pickles, light spices, also some green olives. also some light citric notes, some roast, licorice, some pepper and some more spices. finishes a bit dry and lightly bitter with pickles, peppers and some citric notes. According to BB date this still should be good, but the beer definitly has some problems. Its not undrinkable, but the experience could be better, overall just OK.

Cask handpull at Craft Beer Covent Garden. Black dark ruby beer lasting beige head. Bit black ipa roast malt hop finish. Better in mouth some paper. Too roasty dry. Don’t see the point.

Cask @ CPK, Pimlico on 17th April 2015. Deep ruby-black with a creamy off white foam and block lacing. Velvety smooth malt and spice aroma. Richly roasty in-mouth with coffee, pepper, spices and slightest hint of citrus. Roasty finish with bitter core that builds and lasts a very long time. Full-bodied with engaging texture. Superb!
