Bottle. Pitch black body with a perfect, dense, beige head. Relatively mild aroma of roasted dark malt. Flavor is medium sweet, dark, quite roasted malt, coffee, nice bitterness and some chocolate. Fine balanced body and long lasting pleasant aftertaste. Nothing revolutionary going on here, but a tasty, well made, solid stout. Nice.

Coffee stout by this rising star in the English craft beer firmament, thanks to Craftmember for sharing. Creamy, mocha-beige, dense and stable, thick head on a black beer with thin mahogany edge. Aroma of coffee cream, mocha ice cream, caramel candy, 'Haagse hopjes', candied figs, ground pecan nuts, cold cappuccino. Rounded onset, quite restrained in sweetness especially for a postmodern coffee stout, hints of dried fig, medlar and fried pear, softish carb, creamy and soft, even somewhat silky mouthfeel. Pecan-nutty, caramelly and black-toasty maltiness, bittersweet with more bitterness than sweetness, remaining altogether quite dry, with the roasty side enhanced by softly bittering coffee - which does, in the end, provide a strong retronasal aroma highlighted by some warming, gin-like alcohol and a peppery hop bitter note. Hard caramel- and cappuccino-like aspects linger. Soft, creamy and drier than expected, this is a somewhat distinct, but in many aspects great coffee stout, though hardly the best stout in Europe... Still quite a special one indeed, but in a subtle and indirect manner that not all the geeks will pick up, I think.

17 August 2019. At Gents Bierfestival X. Cheers to Anke, Kevin & the crew! Hazy black, lasting, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of coffee ground, cream, fondant, chestnut, earth, black tea. Taste is light malty sweet, restrained chocolate, nuts & fig, going over into bitter coffee, fondant & earthy notes, a bit toasty wtih a 'dull' black tea note. Dry, earthy hoppy finish, a bit herbal, tea-like again with more coffee ground, dark tree bark aspect. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Started off well but not very interesting in the end.

Small cream head over jet-black beer. Coffee, roast, caramel-base syrup and dito coffee. Sweet, mocha, sweetened and creamed coffee. Roast, and thinnish finish. Watery in the end, low carbonation. Bit dull - to put it mildly.

Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, sweetness, metal, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. A good and balanced burnt brew.

Black with thin head. Aroma and flavour have some coffee and dark chocolate. For a Breakfast Stout this misses a bit of sweetness.
