Bottle 330ml @ Geokkjer
Pours clear golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, grain and hint of herbal. Taste is light sweet and light bitter. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. A clear, golden beer with a small, white head. The aroma is mostly fruity, with some pine cones and a touch of pale malts. Hay and grass too. It’s medium bodied, quite dry and softly carbonated, with a decent bitterness. Pale malts, some resin notes, grass and hay. Some basil-like herbal notes too. Lasting finish. Most definitely not my kind of beer. 150711

Gulbrun klar med to fingre høyt hvitt skum som legger seg fort. Lite lukt, noe maltekstrakt og gress. Lett. Noe søtlig med en lett bitter avsluttning. Kort.

330 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a small and fast disappearing white head. Weak aroma of grain and pale malt. Flavor is weak pale malt, grain, low bitterness and not much more. Body feels a bit down watered with short aftertaste. Uninspired mainstream lager, drinkable but utterly boring.

Dark brown color, steady beige head. Aroma has bread, caramel and some grainy maltyness. Medium-bodied. Flavor is quite German bockish. Bready, sweetish caramalty. Some alcohol and grainy notes in the finish. Ok.

Bottle. As Arendals 1839 Stærk Tradisjon and Sagene Sterk Jul. A clear, dark chestnut colored beer topped by a dense, finger-thick, beige head leaving lacings. The aroma is dominated by caramel, with some dried fruits like prunes, figs and corinth raisins and a touch og grains. There’s also a faint grassy, piney touch in the far back. It’s full-bodied and perhaps a bit heavy on the carbonation, but far from at annoying levels. Quite soft anyway. Caramel, some notes of roasted malts and a fine bitterness in the flavor, lasting for a good while. There’s also dried figs, prunes and corinth raisins. There’s a faint warmth in the very end, but it’s mostly caramel and dried fruits. A pretty decent beer indeed, but not of the best old-school Christmas beers in Norway.
I had both Arendals 1839 Stærk Tradisjon and Sagene Sterk Jul at the same time, trying to find out if the rumours that these are the same is correct. I can’t find any differences other than the crown caps and the labels. Even the batch number is the same on both bottles, and it’s already confirmed both are brewed at Arendals Bryggeri. Hence they’re now merged. 150528
