Cask. Pours opaque black, medium creamy beige head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is whiskey, cocoa, roast, coffee grounds. Flavor is lighter plus sweet, light plus bitter. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Different approach, but interesting.

On drought at Cafe Tartine. Pleasurable but restrained all around. Did not get the Belgian aspects.

Out of a can at Harry's Hofbrua. Wow - this is not a west coaster - maybe an English IPA, but a bit of a malty, cloying mess. Pours copper and clear (maybe a touch of amber), with off-white head that lingers as a collar. Hops and malt are both restrained on the aroma. Can is from May 29 - so not too terribly old to have eliminated the aroma. Flavor is all crystal malt, and way under-attenuated. Sticky and cloying - a reminder of the IPAs of the late 90s.

Draught @ Mikkeller Bar SF, on 4/17/19. Faintly cloudy reddish brown with small frothy beige head, low carbonation, faint caramel aroma, sweetish caramel malt taste with faint woodsy flavor, smooth body, long finish. Mellow and easy to drink.

From bottle to tulip. Pours murky brown with almost no head. Leaves a very slight light tan, intermittent collar.Taste is slight spice. Flavor is a little muddled with caramel and toffee. A little butterscotch. The barrel and the scotch ale don't seem to marry well - as there is really not much malt to be found. There is something close to woody-oxidation here, but I cannot quite place it. Almost no carbonation - which is OK to style.

Cask @ Old Devil Moon. Amber with a thick sparkler heady. Toffee, molasses, light fruits. Soft...nice bitter, the toffeeish notes are pretty good and lend a unique accent to this.
