About
Williams Bros Brewing Company is a Scottish family-owned microbrewery, founded and operated by brothers Bruce and Scot Williams.

The Williams Bros. Brewing Co. started life in the humble ‘Glenbrew’ homebrew shop in Glasgow. The first beer brewed was the ‘Fraoch’ Heather Ale at a small 5-barrel brewery in Taynuilt, After the 2nd year of brewing in the Taynuilt brewery and with demand far out stripping supply the brothers decided to expand and also to diversify the range with five Historic Ales. These ales were produced at the new purpose built brewery and premises in Craigmill, Strathaven from 1998-2004.

In 2004 the brothers took over the ‘Forth Brewery’ at Kellibank, Alloa where Maclay’s had been contract brewing and packaging their beers since the sale of their old Alloa brewery. It was at this stage in proceedings that Heather Ale Ltd became Williams Bros. Brewing Co.

500ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light gold, almost straw. Clear with a small ring of white head. Light aroma of gooseberry, white grape, lime zest. Bittersweet taste with notable bitterness in the drier finish. Slightly watery body, heavy carbonation. It’s nice if not all that remarkable.

440ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery. Dark orange-gold and a little hazy with an off-white ring of head. Strangely, not a lot of aroma, just musty notes with edges of citrus. Tastes a lot better: sweet with some juicy citrus, a little tomatillo, leading to a very bitter finish. Light to medium body with carbonation on the heavy side. Starts out really dull but improves.

330ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light ruddy brown, mostly clear with a ring of off-white head. Caramel, berry, oak in the aroma. Sweet taste, more oak and some toffee with a slight bitterness. In the finish. Full body for the ABV, medium to heavy carbonation. What an incredible bitter.

500ml. Otter as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light gold, with an orange hue. Clear, some uneven off-white head on top. Malty aroma, a little citrusy soap, faint hint of orange peel. Sweet taste, more faint citrus, light fruity hop.loght body with medium to heavy carbonation. It’s decent if unexciting. Should I praise it for being subtle or curse it for being bland? A bit of both maybe…

440ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Light to mid-gold, hazy, with a small film of off-white head. Chalky aroma, some citrus and tropical fruit. Sweet taste, a little bit of peach and pineapple. Disappears a bit in the middle and resurfaces for a bitter finish. Decent body with carbonation on the low side. A little bit strange but okay all in all.

330ml bottle bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Darker, almost brownish gold, maybe a little hazy, with a tiny loose ring of white head.woody aroma, some caramel and perhaps a little sarsaparilla, gummy resin, citrus peel. Hmmm. Sweet taste, herbal with notes of orange, some butterscotch. A little umami makes it very moreish. Bitterness in the finish. Syrupy body with low carbonation. Doesn’t strike me as any kind of IPA I’ve ever had, but its originality is its USP. Not sure at first but I’m coming nicely around to it.

500ml bottle bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Mid- to dark gold and clear with a ring of white head. Light bready aroma with tangerine peel around the edges. Sweet taste, more bready yeast, with a nice balancing bitter. Citrus and strong I ced tea in the aftertaste. Simple but lovely-ly put together.
