Draft at the BJ's location in Glen Allen, VA. Poured a brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was actually pretty pleasant nutty, malty. Light caramel malts, with some touch of chocolate. Flavor was similar, toffee, some brown sugar, with a little bit of light vanilla. Pretty good.

Draft at the BJ's location in Glen Allen, VA. Poured a clear golden color with a small, slightly off-white head. Aroma was very floral, with some bitter resin notes. Flavor was about the same, reminds me of a classic IPA.

Pretty solid hefe, bright and crisp with pronounced notes of clove, straw, and banana, with yeasty lemon tones, hints of vanilla, and a bready, smooth fade. Much better representation of its style than this chain’s IPAs are of theirs.

Heavy notes of dark chocolate, molasses, raisin, and anise, with a shockingly prominent booziness on the back end. So close to being a good beer, but the pure alcohol astringency on the back end is pretty unforgivable.

Decent mix of chocolate, caramel, and nutty undertones backed up by grapefruit, orange, and pine. Definitely more brown than IPA, but drinkable, and the bitterness is appreciated.

Sweet, with a wort-ish undertone sitting beneath a heavy caramel base. Berry, mandarin orange, and pepper come from the hops, but not enough to stand up to the overstated malt sweetness. Boozy, spicy finish isn’t all that pleasant. Starts out ok, but gets hard to finish.

Pretty generic chain-brewpub IPA, mild caramel malts with a minor grapefruit citrus bite and morderate pine on the finish. Inoffensive, but immediately forgettable.

Sampled on draft at a Pittsburgh location this beer poured a caramel brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was astringent and harsh with fusel alcohol, bubblegum and toffee. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied.

Sampled on draft at a Pittsburgh location this beer poured a murky purple color with a large creamy pink-white head that left excellent lacing. The aroma was tart, yeasty and musty with a strong berry presence. The flavor was tart and sweet with strong blackberry, mustiness and a light astringency. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Well done.
