… and England have failed to qualify for the World Cup, 2 Unlimited are Top of the Pops with their dance smash No Limit, Shane Warne has bowled the ‘Ball of the Century’ and Rooster’s Brewing Co. has just hatched - forever changing the shape of beer in the UK. Originators and innovators of quality, new world pale ales, with an emphasis on flavour and aroma, our beers start to stand out and turn heads amongst a sea of brown beer, with Yankee (our flagship pale ale) leading the way.

Can from Beer52. Semi hazy yellow-gold with fluffy white head, some decent lacing. Aroma of citrus pith, light coconut and flora. Taste has a certain fruity but bitter citrus - somewhere between pithy and zesty with a semi-drying mineral, hint of tropical, flora and pale malt. Light to mid bodied, fine carbonation. Very sessionable and well rounded.

Can from Chester Beer and Wine. Pours a cloudy gold with small white fluffy head. Aroma of the orange peel and coriander, slightly medicinal in note. Taste of citrus, candied orange peel, coriander, wheat. Fairly light bodied, dry, somewhat tangy. The ingredients separately are fine but the elements are not really coming together in this beer. It just tastes one dimensional even if it is perfectly drinkable.

Can from EeBria. Cloudy gold, small white head, nice lacing. Grapefruit, light gooseberry, some pine on the nose. Taste is quite zesty, grapefruit, mandarin, pine. Near medium bodied, zingy, bitter. Punchy number without being overdone, good balance between fruity and bitter. I really like it, a little surprised by the average ratings, maybe got lucky with a can from a great batch.

Cask @ Paramount, Manchester. Towards black with a creamy off-white head. Fairly smooth it has chocolate orange notes as the mostly trade name of the actual confectionery would suggest, albeit a tad understated.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 11 Sep 2024) Golden amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with tropical fruit, candied pineapple, orange peel and toffee. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, orange peel, candied pineapple and papaya, black-currant, winegum and a balanced herbal bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Refreshing. Nice one.
