Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Dark copper with a thin cream head; nutty aroma of roasted malts; taste of chewy caramel malts with an immediate bitterness and some sour plums; and a dry finish.

[Cask at Reading BF] Pours an orangey-amber with a moderate off-white head and a light fizz. Lots of marmalade, a little spice, some toast and some cream. Pretty tasty actually, I really liked this. Nice to see someone making the increasingly rare pale mild style.

On gravity at Gloucester beer festival, 23/3/2013. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Sweetish porter, with a touch of roasted fruit and some dark fruit. Ok.

On gravity at Bristol Beer Festival 14/3/2013. Deep gold with a slight white head. Sweet marmalade notes, pineapple fruit, before plenty of American hop character and a lingering dry finish. Enjoyable.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Crowns, Chippenham 16/2/2013. Golden with a slight white head. Crisp, fruity aroma with a touch of sweetness. Flavour had more fruit, and some jarring, buttery sweetness before a moderately bitter finish. Didn’t quite work for me.

Cask at The Anchor, Birmingham. Poured a clear amber with a thin white head. The aroma is of big fruit. The first mouthful almost knocked me off my bar stool! It’s weak bitter, but there is loads of fruit and toffee. The palate is smooth and with loads of toffee and caramel. If Thornton’s did drinks, this is what they would taste like. I could drink this all night and some more!
