Three Tuns Brewery
Microbrewery
in Bishop's Castle,
Shropshire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Sun Inn
Established in 1642
It’s 1642 and a half-timbered building is built in Salop Street Bishop’s Castle to brew real ale for the coaching inn next door, the Three Tuns Inn and our real ales come to life for the first time.
The current classic tower brewery with a 10BBL plant was built in 1888. The beers were sold under the name Three Tuns. Brewing ceased in September 2001 due to problems with beer quality due to some equipment needing replacing with brewing being carried out by Hobson's.
in January 2003, our brewery is bought by John Roberts’ Brewing Co.Ltd. - the name of which celebrates our historic association, over about a century, with the Roberts family. Our brewery is fully refurbished, ensuring its brewing future for many years to come.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns Beer Festival, Bristol 2/07/10. Dark, opaque brown with a decent tan head. Big malty aroma of bread pudding, nuts, dark fruits and liquorice with a hint of spice. Sweet flavour with plenty of ginger cake, more spices, a touch of fruit and nut and a gently bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

On gravity at the Three Tuns Beer Festival, Bristol 2/07/10. Deep, clear gold in colour with a wispy white head. Aroma of sweetish malts and floral hops. Easy drinking, with some sweet malts, a hint of ash and lingering bitter finish. Enjoyable.

bottle. Hazy golden-blonde colour, mid-sized white head. Fruity nose. Medium-bodied, malty background with some hs yhops that have a fruity character. The hops rather resemble Continental varieties, I can detect more similarities with a Franconian Zwickel than with other beers of the style. Neverheless, a convincing and really nice beer.

Cask, handpump at a mightily impressive just £2.80 a pint at The Plough, Worcester, 12-11-09 Pours mahogany with off white rim of small bubbles. Sticky aroma of dark fruits, dates and the like, but more so of black treacle. The aroma transferred into the mouth with dark sticky fruit’s, treacle, dates etc all there, its quite substantial in the flavour department and there is also a very slight fizzy sourness in the mouth. Tasty stuff. A7 A3 F7 P4 Ov14 3.5 Had this again on cask, gravity at the Festival bar Shrewsbury Folk Festival 29.08.10 Poured dark, dark brown with off-white small head. Big heavy beer with plenty of sticky toffee pudding, dark molassess and sticky fruits, still lovely. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6
