Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a medium sized foamy almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is pretty faint. Just hops at first but some citrus coming through later. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth with floral hops, tangerine and citrus. Hints of lemon and stone fruits too after a while. Sweetness lasts into the slightly dry finish. This is reasonable but not really an IPA.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A slightly hazy golden amber pour with tight cream head; sour grainy aroma; dry in the mouth with a sour grainy taste and some butterscotch and honey; then a herbal bitterness and a little spice to finish. An odd IPA.

Bottle from LCB, 1 month still in date. Pours amber brown, clear, with small off white head with some spotted retention. Aroma of brown bread, nuts, apple. Taste has that brown bread and nuts but there is a fruity apple and blackberry, hint of caramel and minerals. Nice balance of flavours. Body is sessionable but a touch too thin. Tasty though.

Cask at The Snakecatcher, Brockenhurst. Aroma is sweet. Caramel and fruit. Clear golden brown. Translucent white foamy head recedes to the rim. Flava mirrors aroma. Sweet juice and caramel. A sour citrus edge. Underlying malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat-soft carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Nice enough. Not too sweet so sessionable.

Cask at Moon Under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head and good lacing. The aroma is traditional hops mixed with ripe fruit. In the mouth it has a general sweetness and plenty of malts, but this is offset by spices and tropical fruits. Old school hops are below the surface as well plus hints of plums and lychees leading to a slightly dry and spicy finish. This is a decent premium bitter.

Cask at Moon Under water, Wolverhampton. Pours lemon yellow with a small white head. There’s smooth citrus in the aroma, plus some hints of hops. In the mouth it is briefly sweet to start off with, before restrained bitterness and floral hops take over. Hints of grains, herbs and spices and a zesty feeling overall. Finish is slightly dry and sticky. It’s decent and certainly swiggable – if a little bland.
