Description
Commenced Brewing 2004 at Mimram Rd, Hertford as Red Squirrel Brewery. Moved in 2011 to Berkampstead Rd, Potton End after merging with a local Wine Producer. Rebranded to Mad Squirrel in February/March 2017 with some core range beers being renamed and others simply changing name from Red to Mad.

A Forward thinking, contemporary brewery based just outside of London, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. We have continually grown and evolved, often in unexpected ways. Always with a boundless enthusiasm for quality, an inquisitive approach to flavour and a restless desire to better ourselves.

Cask at the White Swan JDW, Solihull as Unity GF Pale. Poured a hazy light golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy, light citrus. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a fresh, smooth, mineral, light herbal, light citrus, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Keg at the Prae Wood Arms beer fest. A clouded golden orange coloured pour with a halo of white head. Aroma is semi sweet, big dank, mango, orange, hockey puck. Waxy citrus. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, floury wheat, grainy, chewy mango, hockey puck, plastic, play dough. Palate is semi sweet floury, moderate carbonation. Not bad.

Cask at MS HWY, 13/06/2025.
Hazed orange topped with a lasting off white cap.
Nose is mixed tropical fruit, papaya, peach, mandarin, soft malts.
Taste comprises bitter orange, grass, melon, papaya, mandarin.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close spliced with mellow juicy hip bitterness.
Tidy enough cask pale.

440ml can from Mad Squirrel Amersham. Poured a hazy yellow golden colour with a big frothy white. The aroma is grainy, light tropical citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, light grassy, with a fresh, juicy lemon lime citrus, mineral, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Can from Sainsburys, Gorgie. Pours hazy yellow gold with a thin white head. Aromas of pineapple and peach. Taste adds mango and passionfruit. Light sweet finish.

Cask at the mad Squirrel tap watford. A translucent golden orange coloured pour with a loose white head, aroma is soft wheat, semi sweet, apricot tangerine Lychee, juicy fruit. Flavour is composed of bitter citrus, tangy apricot, little harsh, cif cleaner, astringent grain tannin, rough round the edges. Some background tropicals. Palate is semi sweet, tangy, grainy, mellow carbonation. Ok.

The flavour is moderate bitter, with a fresh, crisp, grassy, weedy, mineral, light mango, dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Panda courtesy of Theydon_Bois, cheers Colin! Black colour, afew bubbles on top and aroma of wood barrel, caramel, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is woody, dark malts, bourbon, vanilla, raisins, with roasty earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, low soft carbonation, drying woody boozy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.
