Description
Independent and family-run since 1900, the Warenghem distillery is located in Lannion on the north coast of Brittany.

In 2001 is the introduction of brewing and commercialisation facilities for Bier Breizh (Breton beer). Inspired by the distillery's technical know-how, Gilles Leizour expands the distillery's brewing facilities to produce beer. Bier Breizh is launched shortly afterwards, subsequently renamed Diwall.

Bottled. A slightly hazy amber mead. The aroma is sweet and dominated by honey, but also with medium notes of rosehips and flowers. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of honey and medium notes of rosehips, alcohol, and flowers, but also with a slight acidity running down the throat - can that come from the barrel. But otherwise the aftertaste is of newly made honey with lots of pollen. Huge thanks to fiulijn for sharing.

Bottle from Au Grain d’Orge, Neuchâtel
Golden color, just a shade lighter than the oak aged version. The aroma is strong, honey of course, but a lot flowery too. Medium bodied, sweet honey flavor with a flowery touch; lightly bitter at the end, also with a hint of sweet nuts. The final is somehow short, and with very light alcohol perception. Pleasant but quite ordinary.

Bottle from Au Grain d’Orge, Neuchâtel
Golden color, just a shade darker than the non oak aged version. Aroma of honey, sweet, lightly flowery, and with some alcohol. Medium bodied, sweet honey flavor, mellower and with a better mouthfeel than the other version, with a balanced light bitterness and a longer final. Difficult to find traces of oak ageing, and, as the non aged version, lacking in complexity.

Bottled, thanks Bov! Cloudy pale golden, brief head. When cold the nose is predominantly citric, as it warms peaty smoke starts to take over. Sweetish and light. Fresh, yeasty and spicy with curacao, orange lemonade and coriander fighting for attention with the growing smokiness. A fun, refreshing and strange beer. More of this!

2006 Bottle. Pours with a clear amber body (considerably darker than the picture, think a nice IPA or light amber ale color) with no head but strong alcohol legs. Aroma of honey, vanilla, mint and other herbal notes. Aroma has a bit of heat from the alcohol as it stings the nostrils a bit. Taste is a nice strong herbal based honey wine with very nice levels of sweetness for easy drinking, although the alcohol is not well hidden at all. Very light effervescence. not bad.

Bottled. A golden beer with sediment of yeast floating around under a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of smoke, fruit, and whiskey. The flavor is cloyingly sweet with notes of smoke and fruit - in a weird mixture - not really good for me. The finish is dry and smokey, but still with a strong underlying sweetness.

Light blond color, fine perlage. Delicate and nice aroma, with both hop and honey. Dryish mouthfeel, no sweetness (as if every sugar has been fermented) with a nice and original flavor; some malt and a earthy flavor, like some farmhouse cheese, fermented hay. Very strange, curious, not bad, but too dry.

Bottle: Pale golden, hazy, quickly vanishing white layer, vehement carbonation; distinctive citrousy-grapefruity nose with a - fortunately - very shy smoky background; moderate sweetish-sourish flavour, light to medium bodied (...6%???); lemony finish with the faintest of smoke. Refreshing beer..........
