Seasonal. Draught at Wachi in Kyoto. This beer was a brilliant deep golden color, just glowing. Lovely. Very lager like, with good grain feel and a biscuit maltiness, and just a bit of sweetness and a touch of fruit. Very good hopping all the way. Medium body, fills the mouth. Dry finish. Great balance. A good, dry beer; no real surprises, but well done.

Deep amber with a small and vanishing, tan head. Light, dark fruits, malty, sweet, and an unfortunate hint of finger nail polish. Thin body. Acidic bitterness over a malty, dark fruit flavor. I can’t say I enjoyed this beer all that much.

Orange over golden in color with a medium off-white head. Very malty aroma with plenty of citrus hops as well. I like where the bitterness is going in the flavor, but the rest of the flavors don’t do anything for me. Malty, harsh citric tones, earthy, and a little sweetness. The body is pretty solid, though. The bitterness of this IPA is spot on, but the flavor doesn’t keep you coming back.

Kaori means smell. Yes, it has a hop smell. A one dimensional hop smell with little body and very little bitterness in the finish. Unremarkable.

@ GJBF 2007. Hops! Malts, citrus hops attack the nose. Hops jump out at you in the flavor as well. Citrus hops and toasted malts power you to a bitter finish. Bitter, but not dry mouth with a hoppier finish than a normal pilsner. A real good brew.

God, this beer is way underrated. Excellent in your face hoppy bitterness jumps out of the nose. Toasted malt backbone, with firm amout of hops balancing things out. Bitter, bitter finish. Very nice. Rating 12 years later and it’s pretty decent after all these years. Not exactly great as once thought but still good. Bitterness is a bit harsh at the end, but overall enjoyable.

Deep golden color, strong malty nose with just a touch of grapefruit. Way too malt, but nice. Malty, syrupy mouth with touches of toastiness and peaches, pineapples and cherries. Much more like an English strong ale. Full body malty finish.

@ GJBF 2007. Reminds me of a weizen, but with something added...like miso (I guess). Banana and sweet malts, with some yeast. Spices are noticeable in the flavor, but the miso adds something I’ve never experianced before. Really interesting. Not bad, actually.

Pours deep brown with a nice tan head. Aroma is standard stout, roasted malts, anise, coffee, chocolate, and some soap, as well. Thin mouth. Roasted coffee, malty, chocolate...and that’s about it. Nothing wrong with this beer, a solid stout. Could use more body and some more complexity, but it goes down easy, so it’s not all that bad.
