Description
Launched in 2012 by by Thomas Vogel, Dave Mobley, and brewmaster Troy Smith, Belching Beaver Brewery evolved from a desire to make great beer and have a ‘Dam Good Time’ doing it. The award-winning craft beer company is focused on two things: First, have a brand that offers quality craft beer, while also being whimsical and fun to inspire good times. Each Belching Beaver beer release carries its own individual style and personality. Second, make beer for everyone and all palates. Our San Diego Brewery hosts 5 different locations serving craft beer you're going to love, of which the Oceanside Brewhouse is the production brewery.

Capped 500 from the brewery. Pours dark brown black with a very slight dark tan head. Aroma starts with coffee, then smooth toasted malt, and a hint of vanilla. Not getting whiskey or oak. Extremely full bodied. Thick and slippery. Flavor is smooth burnt malt, whiskey (doesn't seem bourbon), coffee, vanilla. Not dry; not sticky. Suddenly I'm getting some maple. Then maple seems to almost dominate. Heat is something that doesn't stand out. As all the strong flavors flow away, I think I can get oak astringency. Lots of mystery in this surprisingly complex brew.

Can from the brewery. Pours deep purple with a large but quite transient pink head. Mixed berry aroma - boysen and rasp. Med body or so. Flavor is mixed berry, I think I can parse the black currants, and there is something that might be mustard; or similar. Honey on my lips. Not dry, but not overly sweet. Nice flavors. Recommended.

Bottle with KBL. Peanut butter, chocolate, grape juice nose. Flavor much like a JB & J sandwich with chocolate. Rich flavors, sweet but not crazily so, body a bit thin.

Belching Beaver Viva La Beaver BA Mexican Chocolate Peanut Butter Imperial Milk Stout 12.5% Nice ruby black color flash in the pan purplish tan foam that vanished fast. First whiff gave BA bourbon then nutty sweet peanut with milk Chocolate. Medium to full bodied with lots of balanced sweet peanut butter chocolate. At first colder there was no hint of the high ABV but on warming the boozy bite reared it’s head. All in all by far the best I’ve had from Belching Beaver. I didn’t get rye or anything Mexican from it though.

473ml can. Pours a hazy orange-yellow with a medium, foamy, long lasting, white head that laces. Sweet fruity aroma of pale malt, orange, peach, mango, pineapple and weedy hops. Sweet fruity flavour of pale malt, pineapple, nectarine, peach, mango, orange, tangerine and floral hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Pretty solid.

16oz can. Unfiltered orange body. Steady white head. While it may have a wheaty feel, it has some West Coast tones in the aroma and initial flavor. The lack of bitterness becomes apparent after a few sips. Juicy, smooth finish. Smooth peaches and cream tones, not in a lactose way. Grew on me a bit as I sipped at it. Good.

Bottle shared at tasting. Brown to dark brown color, no head. Aroma is sweet, Nutella, artificial, odd. Flavor is malts, again Nutella, artificial hazelnuts, sweetish but also some boozy bitterness. Not really my thing tbh.

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange-gold with a medium, foamy, long lasting, white head that laces. Mild aroma of pale malt, peach and weedy hops. Sweet taste of grainy pale malt, peach and piney hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Pretty one-dimensional. Meh.

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours hazy grapefruit with a decent white head. Aroma seems to have guava and passion fruit. Med body. Flavor is reasonably dry for the juiciness. Going with guava and passion fruit, maybe a touch of cantaloupe with a touch of something like graham flour. Odd that. It is very good tasting. If this is green guava rather than pink, it is exceptionally well done, guava wise.
