General guidance to members adding beers:-
Kernel beers are largely added as 'series' and the naming within the various series are for example ... 'Pale Ale - Hop(s)'. Capital letter on each hop, no commas.
Kernel beers are largely left unretired so don't tick the 'out of production' box unless it's a special/collaboration beer.
With all the various hop combinations it's not been unknown for a specific beer to re-appear again after an absence of 7 years.
The early beers named as 'sours' were brewed by kettle souring, as such these beers (typically 4% and below) are regarded by the brewer to be more akin to a Berliner Weisse stylistically and are therefore listed as such.
The brewery springs from the need to have more good beer. Beer deserving of a certain attention. Beer that forces you to confront and consider what you are drinking. Upfront hops, lingering bitternesses, warming alcohols, bodies of malt. Lengths and depths of flavour. We make Pale Ales, India Pale Ales and old school London Porters and Stouts towards these ends. Bottled alive, to give them time to grow.

Bottle at home in London. Pours a slightly cloudy, light brown with a soft, creamy head. Beauty of a nose, big pine and grapefruit overlaying a subtle roastiness. Great flavor, juicy citrus, some raw earth, dry roast, subtle cocoa and burnt wood. Medium bodied with smooth, average carbonation. Sticky bitter finish, somewhat oily and warming, hops tickling that space behind the molars, lingering roasted malts, light bread and ripe citrus. Very, very good beer.

Bottle at home with Lyoli. Pours a slightly cloudy, yellow-gold with a small, white head. Grassy, earthy hops on the nose, mild toast. Medium sweet flavor, fresh grass, light pine, a little dirt. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Mild sticky finish, some toasty malts, hints of white sugar and honey, subtly oily, more grass and light citrus rind. Exceedingly drinkable.

Thin offwhite head. Hazy opaque amber body with light carbonation. Resiny oranges aroma with tropical fruit notes. Bitter-sweet oranges and resin taste with strawberry and tropical fruity notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, muddy mouthfeel. Dry resiny wooden tropical fruit aftertaste with oranges and strawberry notes. Lovely, but perhaps a bit sweet and muddy. (0.33l bottle, beermerchants.com.)

330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a medium head. Aroma is tropical fruits, some pine and creamy malt. Taste has piney hops, mango and creamy malt to start. Grapefruit, strong bitter finish.

Keg at the Kernel Brewery. It pours hazy orange amber, with a fizzy white head. The nose is quite subtle - tangy orange and pine. The taste is tangy orange, resin, biscuit and pine, with a long bitter finish. This is another quality beer from Kernel, but I found the Mt Hood hop quite boring when used in isolation like this.

Keg at the Kernel Brewery. It pours very hazy orange-amber, with a thin foamy white head and soft carbonation. The nose is farmyard, earth, cheese, hay, grass and a little bit of tangy citrus. The taste is tangy orange marmalade, mango, earth, biscuit, lime zest, light spice, hay, grass and bread, with a dry-tangy orange finish. A very tasty and drinkable IPA.

Bottle at home in London. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a fluffy-foamy, white head. Tight citrus nose, hints of saran wrap, some grass and sharp malts. Light to medium sweet flavor, some faint toast malts, bit of tangy citrus, some grassy bitterness. Medium bodied with full carbonation. There’s a bit of stickiness on the finish, some earthy hops in the throat, more grass, pine, background sugar. Super drinkable, solid beer. June 2011. (3.8)

(Bottle, purchased at the brewery outlet) Very dark brown colour, almost black. Huge, creamy, beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, cocoa, blueberries and creamy coffee. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, cocoa, dark bread and smooth, creamy coffee coming through towards the end. Gentle coffee bitterness. Medium body, mainly dry. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. Very nice and well balanced porter.
