General guidance to members adding beers:-

Kernel beers are largely added as 'series' and the naming within the various series are for example ... 'Pale Ale - Hop(s)'. Capital letter on each hop, no commas.

Kernel beers are largely left unretired so don't tick the 'out of production' box unless it's a special/collaboration beer.

With all the various hop combinations it's not been unknown for a specific beer to re-appear again after an absence of 7 years.

The early beers named as 'sours' were brewed by kettle souring, as such these beers (typically 4% and below) are regarded by the brewer to be more akin to a Berliner Weisse stylistically and are therefore listed as such.

The brewery springs from the need to have more good beer. Beer deserving of a certain attention. Beer that forces you to confront and consider what you are drinking. Upfront hops, lingering bitternesses, warming alcohols, bodies of malt. Lengths and depths of flavour. We make Pale Ales, India Pale Ales and old school London Porters and Stouts towards these ends. Bottled alive, to give them time to grow.

On keg at the Kernel brewery. Very hazy orange gold. Cheesy hop aroma. Very strong hops. Wow huge orange flavoured hops. Good real hop flower flavour. Very tasty. Not hugely bitter but very hoppy.

On tap at Kernel brewery. Hazy orange gold. Lasting white head. Citrus tangerine aroma with some bizarre brazil nut flavour on the swallow. Tasty beer. Quite citrusy touch of ascetic.

Bottle at home in London. Pours a just slightly hazy, pure gold with a medium, frothy white head. Aroma is grapefruit rind, sharp pine, tangy citrus. Flavor is medium sweet, some rich bread and toasted sugars, melon and grapefruit bitterness, some earth. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Warm on the finish, sticky with sugar and hops, good and toasted malts, earthy and tangy citrus. There’s a healthy dose of tropical fruits in the aftertaste. Yeah, this is good stuff.

Bottle at home in London. Pours a just barely hazy, rich gold with a small, white head. Sharp citrus aroma, some grapefruit, dry grass. Lightly sweet flavor, juice and minor honey, more grass, lots of grapefruit. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild toast in the finish, citrusy hops to spare, dry pine needles and grass, faint sugar. Solid beer, very drinkable.

Bottle at home in London. Pours a rich, dark gold, slightly hazy with a smallish, white head. When I smelled this I literally cried out, such that my special lady thought something was wrong. On the contrary, this beer smells perfect: ripe, tangy orange and grapefruit, fresh pine and grass. Flavor follows beautifully, sweet with faintly toasty malts, honey and light caramel, bitter with resinous pine, earth and citrus. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Modestly sticky finish, oily and resinous hops, tangy grass and crisp citrus, some good sugar propping it all up. Wow. One of the best beers I’ve had from The Kernel.

Keg at the brewery. Pours a very cloudy, rich gold with a moderate, white head. Tangy lemon citrus and herbal hops in the aroma. Light to medium sweet flavor, pleasant toasted malts, citrus rind, herbs, wood, dry pine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Semi-dry finish, some toasty, crispy malts, herbs, faint resin. On some sips the flavor seems to thin out too quickly in the finish. But overall this is good stuff.

Hazy orange amber beer with a small white head. Semi crisp palate. Carbonation is fine (as in fine bubbles) and moderate. Minerally fresh orange with a bitter edge that keeps going to the crisp finish. The bitterness is a little pithy. Some creamy malt underneath. As usual with Kernel - this beer just slipped away!

Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Clear golden-orange pour with a white head. Peach, pear, kiwi fruit aromas. Fruit filled nose. Summer fruit and citrus taste infusion. Crisp and sharp. Fruity, hoppy finish. Good stuff.
