33cl bottle from Proxy Delhaize Grande Haie in Brussels. F: big, tanned, long lasting. C: dark brown with coppery hue against the light, bit hazy. A: dark malts, dark fruits, chocolate, dark caramel, bit roasted tones, banana, dried fruits. T: dark malts, dark fruits, banana, chocolate, bit cocoa, coffee, bit spicy, herbal, dark bread crust, full body and medium to high carbonation, quite nice balanced yet not Dubbel style for me but beside this enjoyable Quadruple.

33cl bottle from Proxy Delhaize Grande Haie in Brussels. F: big, white, good retention. C: shiny gold, light hazy. A: orange, mellow tangerine, caramel, floral, bit herbal, hoppy. T: medium malty base, citrus, bit orange, bready, dry herbal hoppy, nice decent bitterness, grapefruits, medium carbonation, quite nice balanced, enjoyed.

Oranjekleurig bier met schuim. Smaak is licht zoet en kruidig met iets van citrus, perzik en abrikoos. Komt helaas ietwat waterig over.

Bottle from Intermarche on hike in Eygalières. Had in bottle. Aroma is grassy hops and lager crispness. Taste is straw/grass bitterness, crisp biscuity malt. Lager light and clean. Not bad.

New Antwerp “city beer” developed by Antwerpse Brouw Compagnie in collaboration with the Delhaize supermarket chain; profits go to a foundation for parents who have lost a child apparently, an additional reason to give this beer a go, I would think. Steinie bottle from the Delhaize in Lokeren. Thick, egg-white, papery-lacing but relatively large-bubbled, stable head over a hazy straw blonde beer with greenish tinge and fierce sparkling throughout. Aroma strongly spiced with coriander seed and (almost freshly grated) ginger, next to hints of ripe banana, minerals, plaster, pear, dough, bubblegum, cloves, wet grass, apple peel, soap and even bath foam. Sweet onset strongly dominated by banana ester with side notes of pear and pineapple, very minerally and initially painfully stinging carbonation (bit too much even for a Belgian blonde), soft and slick doughy and cereally pale malt sweetish body soaked in strong, ethereal spiciness of ginger and coriander seed, with additional clove- and anise-like phenolic accents. Late grassy hop bitterish note is present, but otherwise ending malt sweet and bubblegummy, with lingering coriander soapiness. I never liked overspiced Belgian ales and this certainly is one – you’ll love this if you like ginger-flavoured beers, though. Technically not bad, accessible to a larger audience, but why so much spicing?

Bottle from a Delhaize (Dok Noord). Pours hazy dark brown with a big, lasting, foamy, beige head; irregular lacing. Strong aroma of pear syrup, apple cake, candied plum, marzipan, licorice, milk chocolate, toast, gingerbread, faint solvent (but not obnoxious), very creamy coffee with lots of sugar. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, lots of marzipan & sugary dough, fruity notes offer plum & apple cake, ripe pear renders it somewhat phenolic; light spicy bitter then, gingerbread & licorice next to faint, tea-like herbal note, some very creamy mocha too. Dryish, herbal, bit earthy hoppy finish, lingering ripe (or candied) fruit, caramel & spices, and a firm dash of warming liqueur, almost brown rum-like alcohol. Medium to full body, creamy/syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Rich & full Belgian Quad (Dubbel? Nah), tacky name though.

33cl Bottle from AH. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of some roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, some tobacco. Flavour is light to medium sweet, malty, some roast, light fruity, cocoa, bittersweet finish. Medium bodied at best. Expected more depth and body, bit of disappointment tbh.
