Bottle from Hay Wines, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Clear, copper colour. Woody, rich, stewed dessert apple. Some sweetness, along the lines of vanilla pod. Light esters, too. Pretty complex. Smells barrel aged, almost. Taste has a dried fruit sweetness. There’s a woody, nearly sour dryness, balancing the sweet nicely. Palate is rich and smooth, with a fruity booziness. Finishes soft, dry, and fruity. Really good, and possibly made better by the fact it’s been sat, forgotten, in the cellar for a year?

Bottle bought at Gloucester Services on the M5 motorway. Deep gold in colour and pretty much flat. As Fin mentioned, this had plenty of medium pear fruit, with some core and skin rusticity thrown in and a gentle finish. Drinkable stuff.

500ml bottle from a beer & wine shop, Ledbury High Street. Pours a light, clear yellow with light apple aroma. Taste isn’t particularly strong and doesn’t taste 7.5%.. it’s a light, fleshy apple taste with a medium dry character and dusty tannins on the finish.

500ml bottle from a Beer & Wine shop, Ledbury high street. Very pleasantly surprised by this one, pours a luscious golden colour with a light sparkle. Has a distinctly smoky character with oaky - almost whisky-like - woody notes, almost like this was pressed during a boozy village BBQ. Coarse tannins round things out with a dusty cider-shed dryness seeing things through. Cider with real character this. Love it.

Polycask at FFTMC, Oxford with Loz, Jan, Charlotte Sun 23rd Oct 2011 More medium sweet than medium dry, very easy drinking and really smooth. This is almost squash like in the mouth, soft slightly squishy pears, simple perry with the alcohol showing ever so slightly, good stuff, goes interestingly with chilli flavoured crisps. . Polycask at FFTMC, Oxford with Loz, Jan, Charlotte Sun 23rd Oct 2011 A little earthy but with a nice warmth, the apples are not too sharp or tangy, nose is soft and rustic and with overripe apples, like apple skins warming in the sun. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Bottle from the Bristol Cider Shop. Straw coloured with a slight fizz. Sweet, slightly flinty aroma, with a touch of barnyard character in the background. Flavour of baked apples, with slightly spicy fruit, a dessert apple perfumed edge and medium dry finish. Unusual and enjoyable.
