2005 bottle. Big thanks to Zathrus for the bonus! Consumed on 11/9/05. Typical Weyrebacher bottled appearance, clear and filtered, that is, with a fairly rapidly dissipating dirty-sand colored white head built on forced carbonation. Body is a medium auburn-amber, with some lighter yellow tinges. Heavy amount of bubbles rising. Aroma of light pumpkin meat and a moderate amount of cinnamon and allspice. Caramel and light graininess noted without a syrupy sweetness and also lacking an overspiced nature which can be off-putting in these beers. Flavor is not overspiced, and the malt creates a medium-light body at best, but the flavors bring mild pumpkin and light cinnamon-sugar toast. Sweetness is clean and round. As willblake says, the beer starts out well-enough, but comes apart as you get farther in. I found notes of alcohol and a light dirty metallic note. Carbonation is peppery, mouthfeel is lightly papery, not enough malt sugars, though it’s not terribly watery overall.

On draught at Kennett, 10/8/2005. Hazy, dark peach to dark-amber colored beer, with an off-white head that quickly recedes to ring. Bubbles rising fairly vigorously, they must have thrown some primer and yeast in there before this keg was tapped. Aroma has raw, authentic peach notes, nicely noticeable brett and some band-aid like phenols (guess I was the only one who thought I smelled those). Dry, lightly woody, but playfully so, with some light earthy-funk to it. Flavor is tart, peachy-sweet with some sugary caramel-like notes and lightly tart brett on end. Flavor keeps on the palate for a while and overall is pleasing, if a little bit too simple in its funk delivery. Sweet, but not offensively so. For an American brewer, it’s a valiant effort. Mouthfeel has too bountiful a carbonation. Very bubbly and aggressive on the palate. Probably from the fresh injection of primer. Not sure if I would have preferred it still (which is what I imagine it became sitting in the barrels), but still needs a good deal less carbonation. I also prefer lambics to be completely attenuated, but it’s ok the way it is, perhaps it wouldnt have tasted right without some residual sugars.

2005 growler at the Mondial Ratebeer tasting, 6/4/05. Roasty and with some creamy, lightly nutty oats in the nose. Flavor has vanilla, coffee, oats, chocolate and finishes with a strong lingering flavor that integrates well the aforementioned. As it warms, I get more black malt notes, which seem to drive away some of the sweet, smooth charm it initially has. The body is loose and flat, and pours a dark brown, mahogany, quite opaque, but no head to be found. Seems they are making their beers very well here, but I just can’t find anything exciting in them. But solid execution, is in itself, exciting, I suppose.

2005 growler at the Mondial Ratebeer tasting, 6/4/05. Dark violet-auburn-brown with some amber tinges on the sides. No head, no lacing. Some caramel and toffee in the nose, with light hints of dry chocolate. Flavor is lightly vinous, with a very earthy yeast and rich barley tone to it. Caramel malts and bitter roasted malts. Cherries, plums and prunes on the finish, which is lightly bitter. Chocolate lingers, though there is some wateriness to it. Low carbonation is pleasant. Enjoyable, but the depth of flavor could be better and the malts seems a little unwieldly, the bitter roast and dry chocolate at odds with the only light caramel/toffee. Too much acidic astringency. A strange one, perhaps it would do much better fresh on draught or bottled.

Nice dark amber colour with nutty nose. Fresh malt and mild hoppiness in the mouth, which blended well.

Lightly hazy amber; good balance (once again), caramelly malt notes mix well with the cinnamon and allspice. I'm not huge on spiced beers, but this is quite pleasant.

Sweet and spicy; this peachy-coloured ale is fantastically refreshing, with great balance between bursting fruit, zesty coriander and pale malt notes. Highly enjoyable on the warmest November day I've ever experienced in my life.
