My last of the night at the 2006 ABR. This is very good. Not heavily hopped but on the sweet side. Honey, fermending fruit, and oak are in the flavor. Heavy on the palate. Low carbonation; actually almost still. This is a complex beer and its qualities hide any alcohol aroma or flavor. One of Town Hall’s best.

This is good. Straightforward with the hops. It is a good looking beer, thick head and cloudy like a hefeweizen. Aroma is hops. Flavor is more hops, and loads of them. The hop flavor is very intense, some citrus, cloves, spices, and a hop burn that is still with me a half hour later.

Another fusion style, something we are seeing a lot of in the Twin Cities with the recent Surly beers. This beer is all about the hops; hops in the aroma, in the flavor, and on the palate. They say it was brewed to celebrate an employee’s wedding, so we might not see it again and that is a shame. Flavor does have some light citrus and malt as well. It tastes strong than it actually is. This is their best new beer in some time.

Maybe California Common just isn’t a good style. This beer is very thin. It did have a long lasting head on top of the light gold beer. Aroma is hops and grass, and the flavor is unpleasantly bitter hops. It isn’t that it is too bitter, just that it doesn’t taste good. Very thin and light body.

Recognizable as their oatmeal stout but softened a bit by some time in the cask. The beer was served not at cellar but warm room temperature; it works for this beer. Black and thick foam. Roasted malt, and lots of oak in the flavor. Actually oak is the dominant flavor. Just a hint of tannins, and only there because I was looking for some kind of wine quality. Very light port as well. Full bodied, but lacks the complexity I expected. Very smooth out of the cask, easy to drink. I wonder if the casks are worn out?

Dark yellow. Initially large but thin head. Simple and pleasant beer for session drinking. Lightly sweet malt and some body on this beer. While not exciting, it is quite good and very drinkable.

How in the world is this a brown ale? It looks like a stout, smells like a stout and tastes like a stout. This beer fits perfectly in the sweet stout category. It has a strong coffee aroma and some chocolate as well. Flavor has the same qualities, but the coffee seems less fresh giving the beer some cold, stale coffee flavor. But it works for this beer. This is the smoothest coffee beer I have had at Town Hall, and these guys make a few of them. Black, medium sized but thin tan colored head.

A cloudy orange beer. Very strong hop aroma and one of the most-heavily hopped beers I have ever tasted. The hopes are sweet and floral rather than bitter. Simple and good.

Its like they made a new summer beer and decided to call it a saison without actually considering what a saison is. This beer has lots of wheat in the aroma, like a wit beer. Orange in color, and a very thin and short lived head. Strange flavor but it lacks the weirdness of a farmhouse ale. Strangely, some honey. This is a lot like their Thunderstorm. Medium-sweet and thin body. It also has that Town Hall house flavor. The flavors become bigger as the beer warms. This isn’t a bad beer, but they might have put more effort into it.

This is their best work in some time. Thick and full bodied. Black. Some grit but it works. Strong cappucino flavor. Fairly bitter and not smooth, but it works in this beer.
