The original saison wasn’t very good and the barrel has definitely helped. It has a good aroma. Yeast, oak, light fruit. Strange flavors, which I guess is OK for a saison. Some citrus, a little more wheat, and a sour bite at the end. Some oak, but I don’t taste any wine at all. The beer is gold colored and clear, and there is a moderate head. Body is a little thin.

Handbottled 12 oz from Footbalm; Thanks Eric! Crystal clear cherry brown with a small straw head; Nose of smoke, caramel, and some coffee; flavor was heavy with smoke light caramel, and a tiny coffee note. More like a smoked ale!

Thanks to footbalm for sending this one so that I could share it at the pre Cask Ale Tasting. This IIPA pours amber with a firm white head. Earthy, muted hop aroma typical of an English IPA. The flavor is dry and bitter, but is well supported by the malt base. The lack of alcohol in the profile is surprising for a beer of this strength.

They love their coffee beers at Town Hall. This has more coffee character than most. Lots of coffee in the aroma. Slightly less in the flavor. I like the session-style low abv on this one. It isn’t complex at all, I don’t get any chocolate or fruits. Its kind of a mild infused with coffee, and good for what it is.

IPA? Get outta here. This beer has a pleasant aroma of herbs and spices. The flavor is a letdown however, with weird grasses; corn, rotting vegetable matter. It looks good enough, cloudy yellow and a thick white head. Usually Town Hall does a good pale ale, but this beer is a failure.

The waitress called this a "German pilsner with chocolate malt." I would call it a dunkel. The flavor starts with bitter hops and a hint of chocolate while cold. As it warms the lemongrass increases in prominence in the aroma and flavor to the last sip. While cool this works well, but as the temperature increases, the lemongrass becomes less enjoyable and turns into a harsh, poor quality tea flavor. Very dark brown and muddy. It is cool they have created something new.

GABF 2006 - just getting around to post. I actually poured this at the festival, and tasted quite a bit of it. Interesting Wee Heavy - very oaky, almost whisky aroma and taste.

This is very good. Of course they didn’t invent this fusion style, but they have pulled it off well. The aroma isn’t as full or flowery as the La Chouffe, but still good with some flowers, citrus, and hops. Dark, cloudy gold with a thick white head on top. Flavor is not as intense as I expected. Some hops, also fairly sweet with more fruit and malt. A thick beer, and the alcohol is well hidden.

GABF 2006 poured and tasted. This was my favorite of the Town Hall selection provided for the festival. Nice full flavor, yeasty bready. Nice bitterness balanced throughout.

GABF 2006 poured and tasted. Nothing exceptional about this one. Dark yellow in color, malty, hop taste is present, though not in front.
