Bottle 34,5 cl. Clear amber golden with an off-white head. A little caramel in the nose, slightly metallic too. Medium body, lightly sweet caramel, again a little metal or iron accents. I believe I can actually pick up a little red grapes, but it may be just because I know they are there. Discreet bitterness. 140211

34.5 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a small off white head. Aroma is roasted malty and light fruity. Sweet, fruity and light hoppy fruity. Mild citrusy and slight peachy. Fruity and slight bitter to citrusy finish.

34.5 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is light cornish and grassy. Flavour is bitter and slight grassy. Slight citrusy and crisp hoppy. Mild fruity and bitter finish.

Bottled. An amber beer with notes caramel, malt, and some hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and some spicy hops, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Clear golden copper coloured body with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma of wheat, cardboard, caster sugar, soap and very mild yeast - pretty mild. Light-bodied; Sharp wheat and yeast flavour at first with a good kick of light spices and yeast with a little sweetness at the end. Aftertaste is mild, yet shows some good clove and coriander seed freshness, with a touch of corn at the very end. Overall, a decent beer, not so horrible, but not showing much flavour at all. Definitely good to try, especially after all the time and the 15,000 miles to bring it back! I sampled this 345 mL bottle purchased from a bottle shop in Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW, Australia on 24-July-2008, sampled at home in Washington nearly three years later on 05-February-2011.

From the tap at the Local Taphouse, St Kilda on 27/1/2011 (part of a five beer tasting paddle). Dark reddish brown in colour. The aroma sweet malt, chocolate, toffee and mollasses. In the mouth, it’s a sweet one, with chocolate (milk rather than dark) and cola most prominent. There’s modest amount of hops at the back. A decent dark beer, but lacks depth.

Pours amber with a tiny fading head.Nose shows typical doughy wheat, some light phenols along with a hint of lemon.Similar flavours but with the addition of a lot of sweet, characterless and unchallenged malt.Very high carbonation and watery body.

From a 345ml bottle on 4/8/2010. Smells of coffee, cherry liqueur, roasted malt and a little chocolate. In the mouth, there’s lots of coffee and burnt malt flavours, with some toffee - quite flavoursome and full on. The bitterness is quite firm and long. The carbonation is a little too lively for me. All up, an interesting dark ale, if not quite a home run.

Bottle, 11C. Almost black with red tinges. Light tan head dissipates rapidly on the first one; a second is more resilient. Aroma has roasted malt, prunes, cherries, ash and mocha. Doesn’t smell that strongly of coffee. Medium to full body. Taste has some dark roasted malt and some fruit sweetness but is really dominated by coffee bitterness and a little astringency. Finishes quite bitter with hops as well as coffee. Close to being a porter rather than a brown ale. A little too much coffee for the beer here - it could have done with a little more sweetness for my tastes.
