Description
The first written records of the brewery in Protivín date back to 1540. In 1711, it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for more than two hundred years. During the Schwarzenberg era, a beautiful brewhouse with copper boilers was built, including an atypical wort pan in the shape of a square, where beer is still brewed to this day. South Bohemian water from its own wells, traditional way of brewing and skills of South Bohemia are for decades the basis of beer brewed here, known under the brand Platan.
In 2008 the brewery became part of the Pivovary Lobkowicz Group.

Pours near black with beige head. Big roasty toasty vibes, light burnt malts, coffee, mild liquorice. Towards a dry stout in character. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Delicious

500ml bottle from Hi-Time Wines in Costa Mesa. Drank at my daughters place in Laguna Hills on 18th August 2025. Poured into an old Corsendonk stemmed tulip glass (twice). Golden look, clean and clear; on top a white crust. Slight O'Fest like sweetness which I liked.

0.50l can from Eurospin. Aroma is grassy, grainy and dusty. Pours clear golden color with medium sized soapy white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet malty and grassy, following is slightly medicinal and floral, mouthfeel is crisp and dry, while finish is pretty bitter. Medium body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Cheap & efficient…

Can at home. Deep golden pour with a handsome white head. A sweet, malt-forward lager with barely detectable bitterness here and there. A bit too sweet to my liking, and not that well rounded either.

0.5 l can. Deep golden colour, thin head. Pretty average pilsner, but for it’s on the bitter side rather than on the malty, it is indeed to my liking.

Bottiglia.
