Notes from January 2011 The last of the stash. What patience. Sat on this for two years+. My favorite scotch ale to date. Thanks Hougabooms. Thanks Al. Thanks Chris. :) Actually, I was a little worried about souring, considering that the imperial stout released the following year went ugly in just a few short months. Very thankful that this didn't turn. Opened this one up around 7:30am while waiting for the doors to open at Southampton. Was warm enough to ditch the gloves even. Rounded pint glass. Shared 3 ways. Recent bottle mixed with old notes: Mahogany-colored brew, but darker maybe. Not quite clear, but no floaties either. Short lived inch of tan head, kept alive by a constant swirl. Lightheartedly smoked peat, maple, bourbon, brown sugar, & some lactose(to me anyway). Alcohol is a bit shy, hidden underneath all that sugar, contradicting some other reviews. Tea & sweet bourbon up top. Tobacco. Vanilla & a slight barrel twang that I needed help discovering. Some interesting amaretto-like nuances that maybe made me miss the twang at first. Not as sweet as it smells. Carbonation fell apart half way through the glass, though it was decent at the start. Feel has some heft to it, but was overall a touch thin. Alcohol was as advertised, & not much of a deterrent honestly. I love this beer & will miss it so.

Can (1/11/24) pour from Andover Classic Wines. Opaque black with light sparkle, nice head and lacing. Aroma is strong roasted earthy malt, toffee. Taste follows aroma with late hop bitterness. Smooth, frothy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Good for style.

Bomber from Angie's. Clear amber pour, lasting silky off-white head. Aroma is hilarious day spice, specifically allspice. Taste too is savory, allspice, nutmeg, held up pretty nicely by the malty base . Minor hoppy notes. A nice take on the holiday style.

Can from Bert's Tawny brown with a decent sized tan head that slowly dissipates. Creamed coffee and hints of chocolate and caramel. Sweet brown sugary flavor with bitter chocolate and a touch of alcohol warming. Tasty sipper.

Pours clear garnet into a tulip. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to mottle surface. Nutmeg, coriander and juniper aromas. Sweet, dry and medicinal with hot juniper, bitter pith, dried bark and bitter apple front to back. Rather jaeger-like.

5 oz. draft. Flavor shows weak, tropical fruit. Reminiscent of mango or pineapple-ish. Very some weak citrus in there in the form of lemon peel. Thin texture. Average at best for me.

Pours a lovely black from a can, off white head. Rich roasty malt aroma and flavor, light in the mouth. Good beer.
