Tap. Cloudy pale yellow no head. Aroma of uncooked sweet apple juice with a tart and mildly funky edge. Very light body juicy. Some sweet but mostly slightly tart apples. A little bit of funk. Refreshing but a bit thin. OK. Minimal intervention with this one I’d guess.

Bottle. Unclear reddish brown with an off white head that lasts OK. 3- Earthy and lightly bready aroma with spices and marmalade citrus. I’m thinking this is an amber at this stage, but the palate _is_ more hop focused. Light bodied and swiggable with more bitter orangish citrus than expected. A little toffee. Pepper comes through at the end. Dryish finish with moderate bitterness. Cheerful, refreshing.

Bottle. Amazing how long they resisted making a cherry beer. Clear reddish amber with a just pink tinged white head that fades to a coat 3+. Funky damp hay and creamy cherry aroma. 7+ Much tarter than suggested by the aroma. Quite dry with almondy cherry pits being the main evidence of cherries. Crackers, husks, some twigs, gently floral with moderate bitterness and astringency at the end. Elegant and very good with cheese, but perhaps a little thin by itself.

Pours very dark brown with a small head.Nose shows bready and toast malt, nutty notes, golden syrup, melanoidin malt and wine-like characters.Flavours include toasty malt, biscuity notes, sultanas, golden syrup and oxidised notes.

Bottle, 14C (I wouldn’t drink it much colder) . Very dark but clear brown with a light tan head. Somewhat earthy aroma with bread, licorice, mace, pepper. Taste has some chocolate, prunes and raisins too. Just over medium bodied, lowish carbonation. Alcohol is certainly present on the palate but it’s all well integrated. Lowish bitterness, slightly spicy at the end. Nicely balanced. Can’t say I disliked anything at all about it but it’s mellow rather than compelling. As it warms (even further) there is a whiff of booze at the end.

From a 330ml bottle on 10/5/2016. Pours a murky amber with a small head,. Has a relatively slight aroma with some dark fruit and basement notes. Take a sip and it’s sweet and malty - caramel and toffee primarily, along with some sultana and date. Finishes with a moderate, slightly lingering bitterness. Quite light bodied for such a big beer, with moderate carbonation. Dessert like in character, it’s pretty easy to down for a 10 per center, but rather straight forward and ultimately fairly forgettable.

From a 330ml bottle on 20/3/2016. Pours a cloudy brown with a small head. Has a slightly tart nose, with just a hint of vinegar. Take a sip and there’s biscuity malt, some fruitiness, a good dash of yeast and a moderate, zesty bitterness. medium bodied with average carbonation.Okay but not hankering for another.

Bottle. Reddish amber with a small beige head. Aroma is quite earthy with caramelized bread crusts and biscuits. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Mercifully not as sweet as these Irish ales can be, but with layers of toffee, some earth, biscuit. Noticeable bitterness (for this sort of thing) with some spices at the end. [6 3 7 3 13=3.2]Pulled from a swan-neck tap at the brewery the next day. A different beer. Clear dark amber with a thick off white head that lasts. Cleaner and much less earthy. Finish is briefer with a little lean towards dry, moderate bitterness and quick burst of spices. [7 4 73 15 = 3.6] Averaging score.
