Description
Popihn was founded in 2017 by Arnaud Popihn in the French Vaumort region. Supported by head brewer Gunther Oltra, Popihn quickly became the most hyped brewery in France.

Arnaud renovated an old barn and installed brewing tanks: the brand and the workshop were born! He immediately associated with a friend they met in Paris and they decide to embark on the adventure together by making artisanal French beers in the Sens region, in the countryside and with the barley grown by his parents.

It is in this natural break that we find the Popihn brewery workshop, with the very latest brewing equipment. They readily admit to being influenced and inspired by the breweries of the United States and England.

Very aromatic although a little bitter IPAs which give pride of place to exotic fruits (lemon, guava, mango, grapefruit!) And sour drinks that are not very developed in France! This is their hallmark: originality and innovation, but each time with the highest quality! Their daring paid off: they are now key players in these “niche” markets!

A murky and light yellow beer, a head is quite big and blond Aroma has smooth mango and papaiya, some mandarin and coconut. Taste has bolder touch, mango, grapefruit, sharp herbs, which are propably coming from Sorachi and Talus. Medium bodied. I expected a lot from this hop comboa and it fulfilled my expectations. Great beer.

Pours hazed blonde. Small white stable head. Scent is stonefruity, but with a certain 'green heath' to it, raw hoppyness, very dank. Mild 'white pepper'. florality as well. Does give the idea of being sticky/sweet rather than crisp and refreshing. Taste is mildly bitter. Some hopburn, powdery hops, even (way) more exhausting than anticipated. Malty base, with a generous hop(powder) on top, but no real balance or high drinkability. All the above in terms of aroma, which sounds (and does taste) very good, but its also a drink you get very easely bored of, because it lacks balance.

Bottle. Black with very dark brown head. Lots of roasted malts, cocoa, molasses and soft coffee. Then the barrel kicks in with quite some alcohol, coconut, vanilla and apple. Soft red fruits in the finish. Quite sweet but also quite bitter. Full bodied with boozy finish. I've actually been to Drouin and tasted their calvados, but I'm not a huge fan and prefer cider by far. But this is a lovely beer and does show a ton of calvados.
