Description
Inspired by local brewing traditions and the vibrant US craft beer scene, Magic Rock Brewing is the culmination of a lifelong passion for beer. Richard Burhouse (aided by head brewer Stuart Ross) started the brewery in 2011 in an old out-building of the family business in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Alongside a distinctive core range we produce an ever changing line up of idiosyncratic beers with an innovative quality driven approach. Our ‘Same but Different’ beers are packed with intense yet approachable flavours which will challenge and inspire, but above all remain balanced and drinkable.

In 2022 Lion breweries have sold Magic Rock to Odyssey Inns.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 5th July 2011. Almost black with reddish-tinged head and some patterned lacing. Delicious burnt malts aroma. Exquisite coffee and smoke in-mouth with touches of bitter chocolate. This fine chocolatey note develops into a luxury finish. Excellent.

On tap at Craft Beer. Hazy amber beer, small white head. Nice nose with touches of Nelson and Citra hop. Soft smooth palate. Creamy malt with nice hop flavours of rich orange and tropical fruity. Finishes soft and semi dry. This is good stuff - I could have taken this for a Kernel beer and I can think of no higher praise for an English brewed IPA. Original rating 3.8.

On tap at Old Fountain after an evening drinking some excellent beers at Brewdog Camden - Magic Rock held their own with Cannonball. This time it was the depth of the fruity hops that really got me - so rich and with real prescence. This is a great beer!

Cask at CP&K. It pours clear amber, with a large foamy beige head and soft carbonation. The nose is wood, smoke, orange, nut and some caramel sweetness. The taste is roasted malt, brown bread, wood, smoke, burnt malt, bitter chocolate, nut and astringency, with a long bitter-woody finish. A tasty hoppy red ale.

On tap at Craft Beer Co. Hazy gold. Pink grapefruit aroma. Bit of butter on finish. Rather a decent pink grapefruit beer. Lacks a but of the fullness in the mouth but has a sherbert sweetness I just not too keen on. Ok.

Cask at the Craft Beer Co. Grand opening. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a soft, white head. Rich hop nose, very grassy, some sunny malts. Light to medium sweet flavor, subtle biscuits, grassy bitters, slightly resinous, bit of earth. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Great condition. Very dirty, grassy, rindy bitter finish, some malts in the background. Very good.
