Dark brown coloured body with a very thin, fast-dying slightly off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, toffee, caramel, nuts and a bit of earth - fairly strong, but all good. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong sweet flavour at first with a good roasted malt flavour with an earthy and slightly pungent bite soon afterwards. Aftertaste shows some good qualities and a nice complexity with chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and earth very noticeable. Overall, a nice complex and roust porter - a great beer, especially for the style.I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Ridgeview Liqours in Green Bay, Wisconsin for US$1.79 sampled at my hotel room in Green Bay on 29-July-2012.

12oz bottle. Attractive opaque brown-black with a big, creamy beige head. Pronounced minty chocolate aroma. A big, hearty Black IPA, probably the best example of the style made in Wisconsin. Thick oily roast and chocolate malts, caramel. Big and full bodied, pretty much nails the style. Minty chocolate finish.

On tap at the Sugar Maple. Pours a clear amber brown with a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a bit of light fruit but is mainly full of sweet grains , toffee and a hint of caramel. Flavor begins with bread that grows in sweetness and has some toffee and a bit of alcohol.

Draft at Old Fashioned. Filtered burgundy brown. Thin, glass lacing head. An interesting experiment. Honey fruit, sugared. Malty, but dominated by the tweaked out yeast. Soapy hop balance, but once again the odd, out of control yeast dominates. Sort of a mess. OK though..

Bottle courtesy of GhostFace. Thanks! Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Earthy, peaty aroma with some toffee and mild hops. The taste is very earthy with tart berries as if it may be off. Some treacle and toffee notes as well. Medium bodied, high carbonation and pretty disappointing.

A deep dark porter with a receding brown head. In aroma, a herbaceous chocolate with light coffee notes, wild grass, so-so. In mouth, a light sweet chocolate with light herbal and acidic notes, medium bodied. On tap at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Bottle. Deep brown body, red highlights. Fizzy, beige head, diminishing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, ash. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Dry roast finish with a hint of sweet sugar/molasses/lactic that turns tart, then bitter. Tastes of nuts, roast, vanilla and a note of coffee. A bit flabby, watery going into the finish, but overall a nice collection of aromas and flavors. Enjoyable and easy drinking.
