Description
Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making us one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft movement. We started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, adhering to the strict quality standards of the 16th-century Bavarian Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As we’ve expanded our lineup in recent years to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers, we’ve stayed true to our quality craftsmanship, brewing all of our beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops. We’re proud to say that Penn beers have won a total of twenty Great American Beer Festival® and World Beer Cup® medals.

Draft at waterfront. MIld gold. No noticeable aroma to me. Nothing special, hoppy bite at the end.

Draft. I didn’t know this was a bock, lol. Lots of nuts and maltiness, I guess, really dark, not the best bock ever.

Wow, this was a doppelbock? For f-ks sake had a bit of this and was convinced it was just a bad, weak Saison. Not bad or undrinkable, but for a doppelbock? untenable.

OK, on my way to florida. Stopped in at the Penn Brewery at the PGH airport to have a glass of this bock. It's super dark and clear like a coke with a lot of dark red peaking and sparkling thru. Head fades to pond scum. Nice uptake on the first taste for a bock. Slightly boozy but well behaved I'm liking this. Some fine cutting co2. Nose is mildly sweet supported by some dark roasted beer background. This bock in the middle gets more civilized and less boozy. Nice smooth feel. Finishes as a good example of a well made domestic bock that really tastes like the ones form the old country. Makes me think I'm in old germany!

Cheap can off the singles rack. Pale yellow & clear. Nose is somewhat lemon. A little bit of lemon peel with a backbone of mild wheat ale. Could use a bit more co2. Lacks the tartness and mild sweetness of most real radlers. More like a typical dull fruit beer. Nothing special but no ill characteristics.

Says “Strawberry Funnel Cake Ale” on the chalkboard here and that’s definitely closer to the truth. Not bad in any case!
