Light dull amber colour, pouring bright. The aroma is smokey (beech) but with only a light caramel malt note to back it up. Simple palate - I like it but that’s only because I’m a smoke whore.

Red-tinged medium brown colour. Light brown sugar nose with hazelnuts and pecan. Very sweet brew with a high vanilla quotient, some background dark malts and a bit of a boozy finish.

Draft @ KLCC Microbrew Festival: Dark brown pour with a smaller tan head. Aroma is roasty malt and spices. Hint of dandelions. Flavor is roasty and spicey. Lots of florals and herbs goin on here. I think I just figured out I don’t care for the taste of ginseng.

Bomber from BrewDad! Nose of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate; murky brown with a medium tan head; flavor is light bourbon, caramel malt, and chocolate! Pretty decent! Finish is very light alcohol, could use a little more body!

22oz bottle-pours a light tan head and hazy dark amber color. Aroma is dark/medium malt-molasses/some smoke, some dark fruit. Taste is dark/medium malt-molasses/some smoke, quickly transitions to some spice hops. Medium body. Good effervescence.

I enjoyed this because while the bourbon is there, it doesn’t overwhelm the beer. The aroma has oak and bourbon as well as some malt. Flavor has sweet malt, light fruit, vanilla, and moderate, but not overwhelming bourbon. It would probably be better with no bourbon at all.

Bottle pours black with a small light tan head and spotty lacing. Aroma is tons of bourbon, vanila, caramel, brown sugar and light roasted malts. Flavor was not so much, but still very good. Lacking the ascidic thic feel of many porters, nice soft feel and a light roasted bitterness at the end. Very Nice. Thanks Buck Dich for sharing this one.

Draught pint at Redbones on 12/03/05. Pours a lightly hazy brown with some maroon-auburn tints on the edges and a very rapidly receding beige head to a ring and then nothing. Aroma of dry chocolate and light roast. Grainy, chalky almost and with hints of light coffee. Flavor shows much of the dry malts from the nose, with a little bit of sweet toffee, but it’s fleeting. Not sure what ginseng tastes like, but this just tastes like light vanilla, chocolate graininess and light coffee. Very watery texture, though not TOO watery. Light to medium-light body with only a touch of light grassy-plant like hops and a touch of nutty bitterness. Mainly just dry chocolate. Moderate carbonation, very lively texture, but no alcohol. I wouldnt have known to find the ginseng. I guess I am just dumb.

2004 draught @ Redbones. Wow, finally another American smoked beer in the area. I was very happy to see this on draught. Aroma shows it is a smoked beer, with some charred cedar notes, light spruce boughs on the fire and some lightly salty pork notes. Flavor starts out with a very sweet, caramel malt appeal, mixed in, but not necessarily outdone by the smoke. It works well with the malt and reminds me somewhat of Rogue Smoke, but it loses similarities on the hops, as this is not a highly bitter smoked beer; which is quite ok. Some lightly nutty carapils like malts add a good backbone and provide a chewy, nutty texture. Honey flavors also are thrown in to the mix and it has just pleny of pleasing smoke flavor to wash it all down. A bit light of body, perhaps moreso than I would like, but altogether impressive for a small American brewery. Deep amber-organe colored body, transluscent with a rapidly disipating light beige head.
