Cask at Montgomerys Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours golden amber with a small scummy off-white head and excellent lacing. There’s malts, hops and blood oranges in the aroma. In the mouth it is difficult to decide whether sweetness or bitterness is more prominent. It is certainly quite juicy. Flavour has malts, toasts, and hints of caramel and peel. Some spices come through later leading to a slightly dry finish. This is quite nice – it grows on you.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours darkest brown to black with a decent khaki head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, rich roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, maple syrup, vanilla, rocky road, toasted marshmallow and cacao nibs. The taste is initially smooth, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, charred, toasty, deeply roasted coffee, burnt toast, cacao nibs, dark chocolate, slightly ashy, umami, maple glazed donut and a nip of alcohol with a dry, bitter roasted finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Flavourful and surprisingly drinkable.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours golden yellow with a small foamy off-white head and excellent lacing. There’s mango, lychee and tangerine in the aroma – but it isn’t too overwhelmingly fruity. In the mouth it is sweet and quite juicy with flavours of tropical fruit, floral hops, oranges and melon. A hint of ginger and some bitterness come through later. This is eminently reasonable.
