On tap. Pours with a clear bronze body with red highlights and a small, off-white head. Aromas are malty, light raisins, grainy, cereal. No real malt complexity. Flavors are sweet with what seems like crystal malt, bready, toasty, dark fruits and raisins. A touch of earthy spice. Medium to lower bubbles, fuller body with some alcohol. Lacks complexity.

A murky reddish rosé barley wine with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, a beautiful vinous malt with loads of herbaceous hops, maderized treacle sugar, very nice. In mouth, a nice well aged barley wine with sweet candy sugar, light vinous notes, barley sugar, very nice. On tap at Barcade Brooklyn, Dec. 30 2011.

From a bottle with a blue and white checkered diamonds label, gold leaves in the middle. The bottle actually does not say climax on it, this is labeled as Hoffmanns Lager Beer Oktoberfest. Very nice good smelling darker beer but not brown nor black in color. Wew, hitting the buds, this beer really comes across as tart and I’m liking it. Funky tart farmy thing going on here. Very good carbonation. There must be some farmy wild yeast in there. Near sizzle cutting sour on the palate, very enjoyable since I like sour brews. I’m telling you, this borders on some of the better tasting sour or tart brews I’ve had. Mild and friendly yet interesting beer. Reminds me of beers I get from indigo imp. I hope I’m not interpreting an infected brew as a wild sour. Very nice crisp finish. Just enough hop presence to smooth it out in the end. As a sour beer lover, this has got to be some of the best fest I’ve tasted. Probably should not be in this style even tho it says oktoberfest on it. I should have bought a sixpack of this stuff. Was pretty cheap as I recall. House of 1000 beers. An unexpected pleasure for the evening. Yum. Hides its 6% well, no sign of alky in this sour soda pop mess.

Nice slightly hazy amber coloured body with a copper tint and a thin tan head. Aroma of very nice and pungent malt, a good caramel and toffee scent, a very light amount of spices and a touch of grapes. Light-bodied; Strong sour and citric flavour at first with an odd malt note, some yeast flavours and a very distinct fruit flavour with lemons really coming through. Aftertaste shows a light bodied beer with some malt and spices, but mostly a light fruity taste. Overall, an interesting beer that doesn’t show much of a typical Marzen, but some interesting and complex flavours. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 04-September-2011 for US$1.95 sampled at home in Washington on 22-September-2011.
