About
Moulin Brewery is a tiny craft brewery, which began life back in 1995. The story goes, that the then owner of the Moulin Hotel, Chris Tomlinson, discussed with regulars to the Moulin Inn what he might do with the old stables at the back of the hotel. Out of these discussions came the idea of having a micro brewery and the birth of the successful brewery.

The present five barrel brewing plant is housed in what were originally a coach house and stable buildings attached to the hotel. Since its initial establishment the brewery has purchased additional fermentation tanks for added capacity but the average brew session remains at five barrels. The brewery's annual output is about 500 barrels per year.

Pours a ruby brown, nose is sweet toffee, caramel, chocolate, taste is dry, sticky, caramel, chocolate, a little sour.

Cask at The Scottish Real Ale Festival 2014. Pours clear amber, thick off-white head. Nice lacing. Aromas of caramel and toffee, light fruit. Taste is more of the same. Bit sticky, but not bad.

500ml bottle from a holidaying friend. Pours clear dark brown, thin off-white head. Aromas of toffee malt, light herbal note. Taste is more of the toffee and fruit. Sweet finish. OK.

Dark amber, clear, thin white head
Aroma - little on the nose
Taste - soft light fruity malts, very soft caramel, touch of berry fruits, bit earthy, slightly odd flavour in there, passable
Palate - Light to medium body, smooth texture. Finish as main flavour, there’s that bitter bit astringent finish again (more so than the Light Ale)
Overall - I could drink it but it comes across as rather flawed

Golden amber, clear, thin white head, good lacing
Aroma of light fruits, light pale malt
Taste of light pale malts, dab of wet hay, soft bitter citrus hop, light soft fruits, light flavour
Palate - light body, bit oily texture. Finish a bit dry, slight zesty but a tad of an astringent linger
Overall - Fairly ordinary, quite watery, it’s drinkable but spoiled by the finish

Bottle at the ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to...I almost have to assume this is something Chris sourced? Pours clearish, red-brown with a faint, off-white foam head. Crisp brown bread nose. Lightly tangy semi-dark malt flavor, some leaves, brown bread. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy brown bread finish, some toast, leaves and dirt. Not great, if I’m honest.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, 30/12/12. Hazed dark amber/light brown with a thin tan head that clears to the edge. Nose carries vegetal tones, peas, malt. Taste follows, light fruits, malt, veg. Thinnish body, watery, some bitterness in the finish. Twiggy brown nonsense - meh !
