[Bottle, Thames Valley Festival of Food at Mapledurham House, Reading] Deep brown. Sweet and malty with smokey hints. Very smooth. Enticing hints of liquorice and chocolate lead into a dry and slightly bitter finish. Unusual bitter, and very enjoyable. Reinforces my high regard of Scottish beers!

On tap (at the brewpub): Deep ruby-amber coloured; moderate malty-fruity nose - traces of raisins and port - ; medium bodied, moderate sweet-bitter flavour; sweet-bitter finish as well, becoming hoppier in the aftertaste. A fine, well balanced brew
