Nara Function American-Belgian style ale 6% 24 IBU Clear copper with dense off-white foam and big peppery clove Belgian aroma. Full bodied and very dry. Super spice cloves and white pepper, I am surprised there’s no wheat in this but if there was I guess It’d be cloudy. This feels like if a Weizen and a saison had a baby. Very interesting.

Nara Twilight Zone 2021 Belgian Strong Dark Ale 8% 19 IBU Reddish brown with a wisp of tan foam and a sweet stone fruit and treacle classic Belgian brown ale aroma. A bit tart tangy cherry and caramel flavor with loads of dark candies fruit notes. It’s medium bodied but bone dry in the finish with a raspy carbonation. For 8% it is ridiculously drinkable but a touch gassy.

Tap at Komachi. Nose is grape / raisin, spices, chocolate, caramel, orange. Very fruity. Dark brown with orange tints and lace. Fruity flavor, citrus, dried fruit, especially raisin, slightly roasty. Dry, almost woody finish. Nice one.

So Isetan hooked me up with the latest Nara release in time to drown my sorrows after visiting a stressful crowded maze of a supermarket with a great craft selection but cash only… Nara Tristesse IPA 6% 30 IBU Crystal clear deep gold with off-white soapy foam that leaves loads of lacing. Great bright fruity aroma, piney, mosaic tropical notes and grape. Quite full bodied and smooth with a big hop forward flavor. A touch sweet but damn good overall.

Lovely stuff. Great saison feel as you’d expect from Nara. Don’t get much green tea but maybe it’s there taking the sweetness of the saison part. Very nice.

NBC x Barnaric Works Bricolage 5.5%. 10 IBU Darker in color than I expected, it’s a reddish brown with 1cm of beige foam and a big ginger aroma. The medium bodied brew gives ginger at first the honey and malt sweetness. The beer has a finger burn. A decent brew but a bit heavy on the ginger.

Been keen to see how this very low abv brew works… NBC x Barbaric Works Coconut Boys Micro IPA w/Coconut 2.5%. IBU 20 On cracking open it has a great juicy hop bouquet that’s fairly tropical. The look is haze with a bit foam that doesn’t last. The body is very light verging on watery - on nitro or cask this beer would rock! The flavor is pure juice with little malt character and the coconut is only hinted at in the finish along with some notes of sticky icky Mary Jane.

Nara Brewing Crossroads IPA West coast ipa 6.5% 55 IBU Crystal clear gold with a citrusy aroma and smooth creamy body. The taste is grapefruit pith then orange julep sweet creaminess before ending on bitter hop notes. Really tasty.
