Draught at Popeye. Copper color with lace. Very grassy hop nose, citrus, but not huge, clean malt and rice. Light and crisp with good grassy hop flavors, clean malt, rice in the after taste. Hops rule without being very distinctive, good enough, though got a bit boring as the rice came through more.

lots of continental hops. Definitely hoppy, but balanced. Enjoyable and a surprise from these guys.

Draught @ Bakushu Club Popeye, Tokyo as ”Popeye Black Bitter”. Rated on 5.9.2011
Aroma has vanilla, slight roastiness and toffee. Flavour is roasted, a bit ashy and has goldings-like toffee. Dryish palate. Good but a bit ashy, couldn’t really feel all the IBUs here.

Draught at Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, 2011. Pale gold with a high head. Aroma of peach, citrus, big fruit, light malts. Flavor has a sour edge, fruity, with peach and light malts. Not so interesting.

Draught at Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, 2011. Bready, grain aroma with light hops, a touch of lemon, and dough. Bright yellow with a nice head. Rather sweet flavor with light bitterness and a bit of salt. Finish could be much more bitter. Medium body, creamy palate. More like a helles—needs more hops.

Draught at Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, 2011. Bright pastel yellow with a nice head. Yeasty nose with a bit of lemon, medium banana and clove. Decent, fruity. Flavor is very spicy, with banana, orange, rich and thick malts, bread. Very spicy, sweet, and cakey. A bit dull.

Draught at Popeye. Black with lace. Aroma of coffee, hops, grains. Clean, roasty flavor of sweet malt, coffee, chocolate, great hops. Nice, though not all that exciting. Very light, and really more of a black "bitter" than IPA.

I think this beer was made in collaboration with Popeye Bakushu Club, which is where I had it on tap. Nice light amber color with a thick, fine, head. Good noble hop aroma, plus, some American hops maybe? Very grassy. Light malt, hiuge bitterness: minerally, with slight cracker plus grass. Interesting but a bit metallic and quite harsh bitterness. Very clean, though, and after the initial shock, very drinkable. Good.

Draught at the Craft Beer Festival in Ichinoseki, Iwate. Red-orange color with a small head. Dusty, vegetal aroma. Light flavor; medicinal and grassy; not good at all. Bitter hop finish. Nothing much going for it. Maybe a bad batch?

Dark brown. Deep molassesy aroma with light nuttiness. Sweet molasses notes on the palate with vague demerara and nut. The body is a watery/syrupy mix not unlike a malzbier.
