Description
Exit Brewing fell from the minds of two Melbournians, who decided to exit their corporate I.T. jobs and follow their passion for brewing beer. Now the family-owned business is led by founder and brewer, Grum Knight, and offers an iconic core range that keeps true to the founding principles of quality and honesty. Our story began with the release of a Saison farmhouse ale back in 2014. Since then, we have added a few more of our favourite styles including a bold yet balanced Pale Ale, the complex American-style AIBA trophy winning Amber Ale, the rich smooth AIBA trophy winning Milk Stout and a hoppy West Coast-style IPA. These year-round releases are complemented by our limited release program that pays homage to our original numbered batches. We’re a fully independent brewery located in Melbourne’s South East, with a small but mighty team of incredible people who continually strive to keep ‘craft’ at the heart of what we do.

On Tap at Catfish, Fitzroy. Pours orange/red and somewhat cloudy. Soft notes of pear and toast on the nose. The peat is more pronounced than expected upon tasting. No cloying sweetness. And it’s a lovely drop for this choice. I love this style, so this works for me in a big way.

Bottle. V dark brown with a light tan head. Gentle mocha and malted milk aroma, some grass and berries. Smells somehow a little more savoury than that. Smooth fullish texture, lowish carbonation. Not all that sweet but fat with more chocolate than coffee, little roast but decent grassy (and earthy) and slightly peppery bitterness. Nice, works well. A bit of a bass note might have distinguished this one a bit more from the ordinary milk stout.

From a 500ml bottle on 30/10/2016 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours a an opaque, very dark golden with a biggish head. Has an unusual, but relatively pleasant spicy aroma, with some stewed fruit in the mix. the flavour s pretty intense and rather good. A fair dose of biscuit and caramel malt, lots of sweet stone and tropical fruit, particularly apricot, peach and mango, along with some orange, followed by some pretty firm, spicy hops. The texture is slick and the carbonation soft to moderate. Not quite a home run but not too far off either. Would enthusiastically greet another one of these.
