About
Jason Harris and Craig Basford decided they were going to do more than just brew the beers they’d been concocting in their man shed for years: they wanted to bring others along with them. So, more than a decade after they’d started making beer together in a rented farmer’s shed in the Barossa, when Big Shed Brewing Concern became a reality it came with an invitation to their peers: if you’re looking for somewhere to brew, we’ve got the space for you.

Bottle. Just reddish amber with a dense white head. Cheerful earthy beetroot aroma with some bread and grass clippings. Full bodied. Not quite sure what pulls together the sweet, earthy and decidedly vegetal notes but they _are_ tamed into a bready and not that sweet maltiness before a pleasant bitter finish takes hold. It's OK but the move away from stout was not a good plan.

Bottle. Ugly opaque brown with a cm of cream head. Aroma of orange and pineapple, sugar, artificial weirdness. Taste is more Splice than Frosty Fruit, with melted icecream and fruit ice. But it's not as sweet as feared and there is a neat bitter finish. Not my sort of thing but OK. Drink it in the dark though.

From a 330ml bottle on 31/7/2018. Pours a clearish pink/red with a medium head. My first and possibly last magenta stout! The nose is plain weird - some sweet malt, with strong vegetal and chemical notes. Tastes better than it smells. It's quite sweet up front - fruity with some distinct raspberry flavour, and I also get the beetroot and parsnip. The sweetness is met with a big, boozy somewhat sour and somewhat chemical bitterness, Has a slick palate with moderate carbonation. This is a crazy, all over the shop affair. It's ridiculously different, and relatively interesting on some levels, but ultimately borders on being unpleasant. I really enjoyed last year's carrot edition. This one, not so much.

Pours murky/muddy clay coloured.Nose shows fruit confectionery by the truckload, little else.Flavours include more over artificial fruit confectionery. A hint of malt and bitterness.

From a 330ml bottle on 16/7/2018 (ABV listed as 6.2% not 6%). Pours a weird murky apple juice colour with a medium head. Has a pronounced tropical nose - lots of pineapple passionfruit and mango (and I'm getting that suffering terrible congestion from a cold). It starts with lots of the aforementioned tropical fruits. The sweetness is countered by a quite firm, tart, slightly spicy bitterness. The balance is just fantastic. The texture is almost milky with moderate to average carbonation. I'm pleasantly surprised this won people's choice at 2018 GABS, given it's quite unusual and a bit challenging. But damn it's tasty stuff. A genuinely great brew.
