2023 version. Can. Black with a brown head that fades to a coat. Aroma is roasty nudging up on ashy with chocolate, some dark berries, oak, hints of Vegemite. Dryish and a a bit more choc-malty and less roasty than guessed from the aroma. Perhaps just a little too dry - a bit more rumble in the middle would have been good. But a relief from the cavalcade of flabby and boozy BA stouts.

Bottle. Red brown, a beige head tries but fails to form. Aroma of bread, cherries, old grapes, wine vinegar. So it tastes. Nice. The vinegar notes could be better integrated with softer bready notes but perhaps they would be in time. Good stuff.

Can. Clear deep brown with a fat coat of beige head. Aroma of bread, heavily oaked whisky, some herbal cleaning product, prunes. Full bodied but well short of syrupy. Bittersweet with bread, grapes, prunes, caramel, vanilla and spicy oak. Some booze. I like the palate - oak and bitterness relieve the richness and it's not oversmooth.

Can. Very dark brown with a cm + of light tan head. Almost austere aroma of cocoa, coffee, nectarines, a little pine. Pretty light bodied. Much more coffee in the taste. Pretty dry beer with slightly earthy coffee, bitter chocolate, creeping pine and a bitter finish. Not a lot of depth but nicely balanced. A bit like The Thorny Goat of yore.

Can. Clear amber with a cm of cream head. Aroma of tenor register citrus, mango skin, feijoa, sticky breadcrust. Getting towards syrupy. Lowish carbonation. Very sweet with oozing fruit and then resin. Bitterness struggles to break through and the finish remains sweet. Doesn't justify its strength.

Can. Clear amber with a white head. Aroma of bread crust, citrus peel (mandarin, lime) some spices. Light bodied, carbonation on the low side of moderate. Very swiggable brew. Tastes as it smells with a citrus and what is presumably rye spiciness popping out a bit at the end.

Can, around 10C. Unclear amber with an inch of white head. Aroma of bread, spiced oranges (pepper, mace, cinnamon), nectarines. Lots of interesting citrus flavours - bittersweet oranges with dried and fresh peel, hints of sour funk - some stonefruit and spices as it dries out towards a moderately bitter end. Not as dumb as claimed.

Tap at Mrs Parmas, Melbourne. Poured a hazy light amber with a thin broken white head and some broken lace. The aroma is pine needle, grassy citrus hop. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a crisp, fresh, dry pepper spice, fruity hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

(Bottle) Pours slightly hazy amber brown with short-lived white head. Lovely fruit salad aroma, with biscuity and rubbery hints. Nice palate, medium body with good carbonation. Something weird going on with the taste though - I get a dominant rubbery medicinal flavour which is quite unpleasant and overpowering (I guess this is the resinous part). There’s some nice bitterness in the finish. Taste too weird. (BB 07 APR 18)

330ml bottle into glass. Cloudy golden beer with solid white head. Nose of caramel malt and citrus fruit. Zingy mouthfeel, bitter earthy taste. Finish is aspirin bitter with more nutty earthiness. Top quality, outstanding ale.
