Bottle. Dark brown with a large beige head that fades gradually. Aroma of dried fruit, dark bread, grass (wonder briefly whether there’s a hint of whatever it was I didn’t like in the dopplebock, but the moment passes) , mocha. Sweet and quite rich with dark bread, licorice, coffee, grass. Moderately bitter finish with some spices. Solid drop.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy light amber with a frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is light yeast, tropical fruit including a light durian like sweaty socks, which isn’t positive. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big hoppy citrus, light toothpaste palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Somewhat refreshing tho!

Bottle. Dark amber with an inch of beige head that never quite disappears. Aroma of toasty malt, raisins, citrus peel and a strange grassy/ herbal/ paddocky note I didn’t like at all - there’s less of it in the taste (and after a while in the aroma) and perhaps it’s a rye thing that doesn’t sit right for me (but is there rye here?). Anyway, totally threw me off. Very smooth with lowish carbonation. Sweet dried fruit and toasted bread, just a little bitterness with some orange peel.

Bottle. Red with a pink head that doesn’t last all that long. cherry aroma is a little medicinal, some mild funk. Very light bodied, slightly lacto slippery. A fair bit sourer than the smell suggested, with cherries behind wheaty tartness - didn’t smell like a BW, does taste like one. Some herbal notes, no bitterness. Refreshing.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is yeast, light citrus hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a yeast, light hop bitter, lager-like palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Rather bland. Didn’t enjoy this at all.

From bottle: Full fruited nose. Gorgeous red colour. It’s a party in the mouth, with spritzy sourness. The cherries do start to overpower eventually, but the playfulness of this sours is a delight.

From a 330ml bottle on 3/5/2015 (shared by Butz with thanks). Bottle makes no ref to Hop Trap but says ’Special Release’. Pours a clear golden with not much of a head. Has a light malty aroma not particularly typical of either an IPA or Belgian ale. Flavour wise, caramel malt and citrus fruit dominate, followed by a quite astringent, slightly chemical bitterness which lingers. The palate is slightly syrupy and the carbonation average. A bit of an odd one this, not bad but not notable.

Amber with a small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, dried peaches and mango, grapes, biscuit, spices. Light bodied, a bit thin for 6% really. Lots of grapefruit, more tropical fruit than suggested by the aroma. Quite bitter and peppery at the end. OK, but didn’t quite hang together as a whole for me.

(Bottle) Hazy amber with stupid quantity of head - took two pint glasses to pour 500ml. Nice fresh pine aroma with hints of pepper. Medium bodied with good smooth carbonation. Nice well balanced taste. Plenty of fresh fruity flavours over so e subtle biscuity malt at the start with some good bitterness developing late in the finish. Very pleasant - after an annoying pour.

Lovely aromas of pine needles, grapefruit and spearmint, with some caramel underneath. The spearmint comes through on the tongue but is sufficiently restrained, with a really solid malt structure. Some more length would have topped this off perfectly. Squealer from Prince Wine Store.
