Lovely aromas of pine needles, grapefruit and spearmint, with some caramel underneath. The spearmint comes through on the tongue but is sufficiently restrained, with a really solid malt structure. Some more length would have topped this off perfectly. Squealer from Prince Wine Store.

Growler. Cloudy amber with a modest beige head. Aroma of caramel, grapefruit, pine, oranges, peach. Sweet with a dry and bitter finish. More peach than caramel, citrus flavours are subdued, pine is prominent. Suspect I caught this one a little late, but the dry finish keeps it very drinkable even if there’s not the punch to the citrus you might expect.

Keg at Mrs Parmas, Melbourne, Victoria. Hazy mahogany colour, mid sized head. Chocolaty nose. Mid dry with light body and clean mouthfeel. Chocolate and crystal malt, notes of wood and caramel. Light grassy bitterness. Interesting.

Tap. Almost clear gold with a white head. Lactic sour peach aroma. Very light bodied, slightly slick. Wheaty and tart with some peach and mango skin, an unexpected but fine lick of caramel. No bitterness. Very refreshing.

Dark brown, thin head. Big weedy aroma, with fairly strong coffeeish note. There is a fair bit of coffee up front, and then lots of hop bitterness, light leafy character. While not 100% effective -there isn’t a lot of harmony between the hops and the coffee- it is a natural extension of the black IPA theme.

Getting 3 tastes from this little baby - grapefruit, grapefruit, and grapefruit. Lucky I love my grapefruit! Bumping up the rating after a re-taste. This is a well balanced beer, medium butter finish.

From a 500ml bottle on 23/11/2013. Pours a cloudy light amber/brown with a small head. Has an damp cellar, fridge like aroma. The flavour is a bit more interesting with some bready, caramel and toffee malts, some nuttiness, followed by a slightly tart bitterness. Medium body and carbonation. Not awful but a bit confused.

This beer spreads out over my tongue like a big malted chocolate pillow, with loads of nutty goodness and a slightly metallic finish. The head is gorgeous, the length good and it smells good too.
