Great American Beer Festival 2012. I drove through Frisco only two days before and I did not realize Backcountry was there. I had wanted to stop at the brewpub but was short on time. This was a solid weizen bock. Dark brown color. Aroma has a hint of smoke along with wheat sweetness, and the flavor is sweet as well with lightly roasted malt and a little fruit.

Sample at GABF 10/13/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. This brew pours a brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head and small patches of lace. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Light-bodied with a roasty character of coffee and malt. Mild hops in the background. The finish is mildly bitter with a coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Freshcraft. Pours with a hazed amber-orange hued body with a large, fluffy and lasting white head. Impressive. Aromas are less impressive: strong acetone and canned peaches. Extremely, noxiously estery. Flavors are tart, estery, raw vanillin, lots of oak and floral. Lively bubbles, medium bodied, dry, warming. Very ’chemically’ tasting.

Turbid orange pour - frothy, moderate lace - zin barrel dominates the nose - damp oak, lightly soured wine, spoiled orange juice, a mild acetone/nail polish note - low carbonation - creamy texture - flavors of sourish yeast, but a fairly pleasant sin character washes this out quickly - sadly, shortly behind this comes some strong alcohol (of the rubbing variety) and mild acetone - a motherfucking mess.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a medium beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is oak vanilla and roast. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet vanilla and light smoke with nice light dry finish. A good porter from Backcountry.

Shaker pint draft at the Blue Spruce in Frisco, Colorado. The pour is a cloudy yellow with a small white head. The aroma is big bubblegum right away, followed by clove and then wheat grain behind that. The taste has more of the clove, then turns to grain wheat, then finishes sweet mineral bubblegum. The palate is medium bodies, soft natural carbonation and lingers too long for my tastes with the bubblegum sweet. Just ok.
